Dear Jeannette:

Yes, I agree.  I need a better med than percocet.  I have just started seeing a

pain management specialist here and so far he has tried me on Opana.  I didn't

have very good luck with it.  He said one 5 mg opana would be equivalent to my

one 10/325 percocet (or close), but that if it wasn't, I could take two of the

opana.

Well, I started out taking the one opana every 5 hours (which was my same

schedule for the percocet).  5 mg was not enough and my normal level of pain

management was compromised and the pain started to get much worse than usual.

So, I tried two opana.  Well, that was too many.  I had an horrific night in

crisis having to tell myself to breathe all night until it wore off.  It was a

nightmare.  So after that 5 hours was up, I went back on my percocet.

I see him on Thursday this week and he has one other drug he wants me to try.

We'll see how it goes. I know that percocet isn't the optimum drug, but so far

it's been the only one to give me some relief (even if it is only 'some').  I'd

gone through a lot of different meds over the years to get to percocet and have

been on it soley for around 6 years or so.  I'm tyring to be optimistic and hope

the other drug he has in mind will work better than opana.

You are so right that less pain would be much better.  I don't think I'm ever

less than a 7 and those 7 days are rare.  Another thing that I do, when I do

have a better day, or even a better couple of hours, I try to take the time to

appreciate it.  Those minutes or even hours remind me that there is hope.

I'm kinda thinking though that you need better pain management. Percocet is not

a good choice for chronic pain. I know cause that's how my primary care

physician treated pain. I needed a pain management doctor but I had to find one

myself.
