Guest guest
This is my 1st day off cytomel, scan in two weeks for recurrent follicular tc. What would be a safe time between low dose RAI and dental work or teeth cleaning? What would be a safe time after ablation for dental work or teeth cleaning? (Meaning safe for dentist and dental workers, since my saliva will be radioactive). Guest guest
Jo I agree with here - two weeks should be fine. I don't disagree with a dentist wearing gloves and a mask (eye protection is a must as well), they are at real risk from hepatitis B & C as well as HIV and a host of other infective agents, many of which can kill. Guest guest
Hi all, regarding the subject, I had dental work in the middle of hypo for RAI. I asked my dentist not to do anything that required novocaine during that time as my body was " slowing down " so much at that point I was uneasy about having anything that contained epinephryn (spelling) which speeds up your heart rate, etc. Lynn in New York PT 1/00, TT 3/00, RAI 5/00, clean scan 9/27/01, thyrogen coming up 9/
Guest guest
I realize your question was a safety issue with regards to radioactivity, but I always have dental work done when I am at my most hypo and before RAI. My experience is that the anesthetic combined with being hyper from Levoxyl do not make me a happy dental patient. My normally slow, calm heartbeat starts feeling like a gorilla is stuffed inside my aorta with the addition of a little ephenepherin. I always schedule appts. that requiring numbing for the time period when I am completely off all meds. Marilyn > This is my 1st day off cytomel, scan in two weeks for recurrent > follicular tc. Guest guest
Hi Jo: You have already gotten so much good info on this but For what it is worth, here is what my dentist recommended. Have your teeth cleaned before RAI if possible. It helps protect the teeth (in his opinion) in case you do have the saliva gland side effect following RAI. He also recommended preventive Flouride treatment as a precaution for the same reasons. As you probably know not everyone has saliva gland swelling etc, i did (still do). So am glad i did the above. Who knows if it really helped (is helping) in any way but i feel better knowing i tried to do what i could. Hope this doesn't complicate things for you. It really is a good question, and one i did not think of until my oldest daughter who is a dental hygienist asked me if i had thought about my teeth.
