Guest guest
, Please do not take any offense to this - because I don't mean to throw anything back at you... I understand that this is a secular list - my question is, are you offended when someone writes, 'Bless you' or 'I'll be praying for you and your family'? I am sorry, but since I have been a part of this list nothing that anyone has written here has every offended me...whether they have been cuss words or blessed words. I would hope that this is a place where I can speak my mind (within boundries) and it seems that I have been given that liberty - except I can't let someone know 'publicly' that they are in my thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
What did I miss? I have seen religious content, and much of it at times, on cystic L but honestly I have rarely seen any of the sort on this list (not to disagree with you , but I personally haven't seen anything that I would feel a need to " complain " about) there are times on cystic-l where it certainly gets a bit heated; perhaps I missed it all on this list. Then I also have a question, which is just how far do we go with this? Example 1, awhile back someone asked why we have so many kids, blah blah blah.... answer back is that we are Catholic and don't believe in birth control. Yep, this is a secular list; but believe it or now, the fact that we are Catholic and have two children with cystic fibrosis has a huge impact on us since CF is genetic. So, does that mean we can't even say the word " catholic " on the list in discussing our " family planning " options, for example? Or that one of our kids just celebrated First Communion (for a catholic) or Bar mitsva (sorry if spelled wrong) for someone who is Jewish, which are huge milestones....and even more so for a child with a fatal genetic disease. Example 2, Grandma Bev often closes with bless you, or often comments bless you to parents having a hard time, etc. Does the work " bless " automatically make it religious and therefore off limits? I am not trying to be picky here; only to ask for clarification. I do know that on cystic-l if someone seriously violates a rule, Ron sends an email to them about it; that way, that one person knows they " messed up " . But several times I think that a number have people have been left wondering if they messed up because of the general posts sent to the list about it being secular. Anyway, maybe I missed a flagrantly religious post and therefore I am in error....and if so, sorry Take care, Jen

So, does that mean we can't even say the word > " catholic " on the list in discussing our " family planning " options, for *** As far as I'm concerned, " catholic " isn't a dirty word. I don't care that people talk about what they do (go to church) or what governs their decisions (religion dictates your family planning) It is when the " I'll pray for you " or " god is telling me " posts come through that people are bothered. > example? Just keep in mind that what others put in their signatures is also their business. I still maintain that religion be kept out of the body of the emails, though. Don't bless me, I'm atheist and find it offensive. > I am not trying to be picky here; ***Neither am I. >only to ask for clarification. If you mess up, you'll be notified. Jen, you have never " messed up, " in fact, you are very thoughtful of others feelings when you write. Sometimes people do not take into account that there are others with very different views than their own. You don't seem to be like that at all (perhaps time in the public eye has trained you to walk on eggshells???) > Anyway, maybe I missed a flagrantly religious post and therefore I am in > error....and if so, sorry > Take care, > Jen I HOPE I have answered your concerns. If not, I'm sure you (or someone else) will let me know. If I have, then this would be a good time to " drop it " and move on. ~
