Guest guest
ANNOUNCEMENT, NOV. 8, 2008: The Global Forum on Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) and HIV TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TEAM for IAC 2008 Abstract Submission: Hello everyone! As you all know, the period for abstract submission for the 2008 International AIDS Conference in Mexico City has just opened (Nov. 1 to Feb. 19). We recently sent out an e-blast encouraging as many of you as possible to submit your abstracts concerning MSM and HIV to ensure a strong presence of MSM issues at the general conference. To aid this effort, the Global Forum on MSM and HIV has put together a Technical Assistance Team to provide limited technical support to those of you writing MSM-related abstracts for the conference. Our team, competent in English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, will be able to go over your abstract and provide you with suggestions on content, format and language to help ensure that it has all the elements needed to be accepted into the conference. Included below are some of the requirements and guidelines for putting together your abstracts as delineated on the IAC website. Once you have completed a rough draft of your abstract, you may email it to jbeck@... with a brief description of yourself and what you do. Our team can then review the abstract and provide you with some assistance on developing it further. Please forward this to anyone you think may want help in crafting their abstract on MSM and HIV for the 2008 IAC. We encourage work that introduces new ideas and conceptualizations, research and understandings to the field, as well as analysis of both success and failure. The XVII International AIDS Conference offers two options for abstract submission: Option 1 Abstracts presented under the first option should contain concise statements of: Background: the study objectives, the hypothesis to be tested, or adescription of the problem; Methods: method(s) used or approach taken; Results: specific results in summarized form (with statistical analysis when appropriate); Conclusions: description of the main outcome of the study. Option 2 Abstracts presented under the second option should contain concise statements of: Issues: a summary of the issue(s) addresses by the abstract; Description: a description of the research, project, experience, service and/or advocacy; Lessons learned: conclusions and implications of the research orproject; Next steps: possible next steps for implementation or further research. To help you with your abstract submission, the following general guidelines have been drafted: All abstracts must be submitted in English. Abstracts can only be submitted online; those submitted by fax, post or e-mail will not be considered. The abstract text should not exceed 300 words. Tables and graphs may be included.
