Guest guest
Tami, Thanks! From what I can gather looking at my SS statements they mail every so often, I don't think I have enough " credits " or whatever it's called, to get Disability. I worked from 16 full time until my son was 1, then went part time, then after my daughter I started selling online and in home childcare, so I didn't get any credits for that, and since I'm only 30 it added up to JUST shy of what you need to be able to get disability. I did pay in enough where I would get Social Security at whatever age, my kids and husband would get some monthly amount if I passed away, at least. It sucks to see on paper that I'd be more beneficial to my family if dead. I say that sarcastically; I'm NOT suicidal, lol. Just a thought in reference to the loss of worth I imagine anyone feels when we suddenly can't contribute the way we did. I appreciate the website; I am going to get on there and look around! As far as State assistance goes, to be insured after age 23 here you have to be at poverty level, and here that is like $17k a year. Thankfully we make more lol. My husband makes what would be enough money if it weren't for trying to catch up on all of these things. Well, you know how that goes . Thanks so much for the encouragement and advice! I know it will work out, just gotta hang in there. ---Tami wrote: > > > > OMG what a horrible situation! I feel for you. I wish I could say something that would be comforting. The only thing I can think of is applying for disability if you don't have it. With a judgment in your favor, you may have a good chance to get it on the first attempt. Guest guest
, Even if you don't have enough credits for SSD, you might be able to get federal disability under SSI-D. When you apply to social security, they automatic consider you for both. Some people receive both if they have not paid enough into social security to have the minimum monthly payment. It's worth a try. Call and make an appt at your local social security office. The last I had was so nice and encouraging. We listed all my doctors, even if they were not involved in my disabling conditions. Check out the web site. the woman who runs it is very knowledge and keeps up to date on regulations. There are online booklets to help you with your claim and what to except. I understand how frustrating it is for you. I was in the same place before I was able to get my disability. Feel free to e-mail me anytime if I might be of help. Gentle hugs, Tami --- wrote: > > Tami, > Thanks! Guest guest
Tami- THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT INFO! I assume I need to have a doctor write me some sort of form first? I'm sending this to my email so I can remember. lol --- Tami wrote: > > , Even if you don't have enough credits for SSD, you might be able to get federal disability under SSI-D. You can do this (apply for SSI) online or by phone but I recommend go to the office. Go to the Medicare website and it has a checklist what to bring. You will need a list of your doctors diagnosis etc. On the SSI website there is a list of disabilities that get you to qualify for disability (which has nothing to do with credits, so to speak) Please be honest, as there are some mental health disabilities that will help you qualify and use them. Examples : Depression etc Doctors will ask you if you ever thought of ending your life, answer honestly. I had a three ring binder with all my Doctors names, diagnosis, tests I have had and even copies of the x-rays etc. I had my pain dairy and functional assessment . There is an evaluation, several, they use to see if you can perform work. This is on their website. What portion of the day can you stand, sit, do you have to lie down ? Can you lift etc. These are the types of questions that they want to know . I cannot stand, sit, for over an hour before I had to rest, I had been on FMLA and I had a letter from my job stating I could not come back until physically able so that helped. If you have a job, take a copy of your job description and state why you can't do it anymore. If you read anything that says , optional, then do it, it will help your case. I had letters from co workers, family, and friends that stated how I had changed. Of course these were sealed and when I read my son's I cried, he was a Senior in high school, and had written, " My Mom used to be so energetic and now she can barely get out of bed and when I needed her most, I lost my Mom " I had copies (CD's and films) of my MRI's, CT'scans reports and dates and took them to the Social Security Doctor when I went even though they said not to bring them. The Doctor thanked me for them and looked at one x-ray and report and said " I have no problem signing off for your disability, I am sorry you are in pain " I was approved the first time. I lost my job Nov 26 and got confirmation of approval within a month and payment in three months. I believe by going down to the office you get things rolling sooner and you have everything on the checklist done. While I was at the office, a representative was talking to a man and said, Sir if your form is not complete, it will not be approved. It was something simple as his Doctors' address. So, not having everything in line will delay the process. Trust the information on the Social Security site and read all the diagnosis that qualify for and there were several for me. Hope this helps and I would not want anyone to steer you wrong and the site provided me with everything and maybe coming from the medical field, it was easier for me but their instructions are easy to follow. Guest guest
Once you apply for social security they sent forms to your doctors. they probably will send you some forms to fill out. I had to fill out a 3 or 4 pages form. Social security pays for all copies of your medical records if the doctor charges for copying your records. You will get a decision within 90 days after you apply. social security has to give you a decision by then. If they deny you, you have 90 days to file an appeal. I got a lawyer to help me with the appeal. When I won, the lawyer's fee was taken out of my back pay before I was sent the initial check. Social security pays you back from the date you applied once you get it. i got my check in about 2 weeks after I won. then my checks started the month after my award. It sounds like you have plenty of medical evidence! Go for it. Keep us posted. Lots of gentle hugs, Tami > wrote: > I assume I need to have a doctor write me some sort of form first? Guest guest
(Still reading all of your kind replies so if this has been covered, I'll see it in a sec I am a stay at home mom. So, if they ask what my job was, well would this count? I mean, I didn't have to quit a job. I did have to withdraw my application for a secretary position after the fall, and I could certainly fill a list of what I can't do now for my husband, home and children anymore, but I doubt they would be concerned about it, lol. In other words, this is all helpful, but I don't think I would get far considering this didn't cause a loss of income past my online sales. Right?
