Guest guest
Dear Donna: I have severe GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) and have taken medication for it for years (Prevecid). Although it can cause chest pain that can mimic angina, it usually isn't as persistent a problem as you've been having. Yes, it can happen, but usually following an extremely spicy meal, or high fat meal. The thing to ask yourself is do you have some of the other symptoms. When you burp, do you get a mouth full of your previous meal (sorry folks...know that's gross)? Do you have burning that goes from your throat to your stomach? Do you have to take over the counter acid reducers like Tums or Rolaids (not sure what brands you have in the UK) all the time. I think it's time you stop trying to diagnose yourself and get to the doctor. There are tests for GERD, and there are tests for Hiatal Hernia (which could also be something that could cause chest pain and vomiting). It sounds like you need a scope done of your stomach. Could even be an ulcer which could explain the blood, the pain and the vomiting. I still think you should go to the ER. Good luck...keep us posted. - PA Hi all,Just been thinking, could it be possible that the chest pain and also the stomach pain is Gastroesophageal Reflux? I had this when I was very much younger well age 2-4 years.

My Dad's esophagus and some of the entry of his stomach was so erosive and Prilosec helped him cure right up, we were so amazed when we say the pictures of his scope. Keeping acid down by taking TUMS, you are right, and they come in flavors now. But putting of testing is not good either as you say and I agree with you. Testing for H Pylori is important also and sometimes you have to ask they do that when they do the procedures. My Mother had gastric ulcers for years and at 79 she was tested for H pylori and was positive. There is no knowing how long she had had that and could have had the treatment before she was so weak to do it. Work looking into as said.
