Guest guest
NO kidding about the " Bittersweet " comment! I think this list is living proof of that California study about the huge increase in Autism cases! I know this list has been here for a few years, but is there always this kind of an increase of new people during a given time period? Guest guest
Hi Shanna, I am 32 also with 2 boys ages 13 & 10. I am scheduled to have my TR on Feb. 17th. I think most of our husbands have gone through very mixed emotions about the TR. I have been trying to get mine for almost 2 years now but my DH (dear husband) was unsure for a while. Even after I paid and scheduled the TR he tried to cancel. I think it is just a guy thing to be a little nervous about having (more) children. Best wishes whatever you choose to do. > Hi everyone, > I have been reading postings for a few days, you all seem to be such > great support for one another. Guest guest
Torsha, Welcome, you will fins that many of us here have similar stories. I had my consult with Dr. L yesterday and he gives me a 65-70% chance. I am just waiting for the loan paperwork now. I am going in March, but cannot take a buddy because I am over the weight limit. I am also trying to have a baby with my new husband. I have 3 kids, 18, 11, and 9. My 18 year old lives with my parents though and our relationship is strained so I don't usually mention him in my posts. I had my TR 8 years ago and have been regretting it for the last 6 years (once I divorced that %^$^ I was married to).. Guest guest
Welcome, Lyn! Although an MRI could be used to diagnosis PSC (MRCP), ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) is the gold standard for diagnosis, and can be used for treatment also (primarily dilating and stenting bile ducts). The FAQ section on http://www.psc-literature.org/, which has a number of common questions about PSC (and answers, of course!) is a good place to start. Your description of symptoms sounds more like ulcerative colitis (see http://www.ccfa.org/info/about/ucp) or Crohn's disease (see http://www.ccfa.org/info/about/crohns), which are commonly found together with PSC. All three are considered to be autoimmune diseases, as are food allergies. Take a look around in the above sites. This is the place to be; feel free to ask question - someone will have the answer (or at least an opinion!). You are NOT alone. I know alittle about the illness. My doctor knows about the same as me. I'm from a small town so its hard to just try another doctor because there isnt one. I had a M.R.I which confirmed P.S.C, as I had been feeling unwell for around 12 mths. My bloods come up fine except for iron. I dont know what to expect. I have been geting terrible cramps in my stomach and diareoha, this can come on any time, the pain is unberable but it passes 2 to 3 hrs later. I find it mostly happens after I eat chicken, I have always eaten chicken. I dont know if I should go to the doctor about these cramps as the doctor will probably say dont eat chicken and send me home. (dont like to waste peoples time). Guest guest
Lyn, I'm so sorry to hear that you have PSC, but as the other's have said, you have come to the right place. I have become much more proactive regarding my husband's care since finding this sight. I agree with the others that you could possibly have UC. My husband was diagnosed with PSC and UC at the same time and had more trouble from the UC until recently. Tell your doctor. You need to have a GI scope done. UC can be treated fairly well with prednisone. My husband also took Imuran and Asacol before his J pouch surgery. At the least they can rule out the possibility of UC. wife of PSC and UC 1999 J pouch 2004 MELD 17 transplant evaluation scheduled for June 8-

Is the " iron " above normal or below? Did your doctor run a " liver panel " or " liver function tests " ? Usually in PSC some tell-tale signs are elevated blood levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP): Abnormal liver test results on routine screening http://www.postgradmed.com/issues/2004/03_04/mallory.htm Best regards, Dave (father of (19); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03) > My name is Lyn and I'm from Australia. Guest guest
Lyn I live in a small town too, and was recently diagnosed. I have gotten myself to the nearest city which in my case is St. Louis( two hours one way). I have had NO regrets. My GP never heard of it, my pharmacist didn't recognize the common drug used (URSO), a retired surgeon of mine said he heard of it but in 40+ years practice, never saw it, etc. etc. These folks can't help you much, unless it is a referral!' In terms of the gut, you might want to be thoroughly screened for large and small colon diseases. They tend to cluster in PSC types. Hope this is a poor idea, and turns out negative for you should you proceed in this vein. Guest guest
Misty, Thank you for your support and validation of my struggle. That means a lot to me. Joan I copied all the links you listed. Thank you. Will check them out. Re: New Member Joan, Welcome to the group! It sounds like you've definitely been through hell, and I'm sorry to hear that. Credibility is one of the factors all of us with FM and/or CFS/ME have to deal with. The medical community doesn't help when they question the authenticity of this illness. Then the lack of funding for research only signals it's lack of caring for " us " . It's so beneficial to have places like this forum to turn to for moral support. In a world where no one seems to care, this is like an oasis tucked away into the background. We've all " been there " , but at least you're not " there " alone. I have a website that is devoted to finding a cure...through our FM/CFS/ME Survey, http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/survey.php as well as providing information and resources for people with FM and/ CFS/ME. It's FREE and there are NO annoying pop-ups to deal with. We offer such things as: * Help finding a doctor http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/find.php * Symptoms, treatments, duration, severity and general info for FM and CFS/ME * In depth information (including side effects and drug interactions) for drugs used in the treatment of FM, CFS/ME http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/drugs.php * FAQ's about FM, CFS/ME and Disability http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/faqs.php * Medical abbreviations http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/abb.php and definitions http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/definitions.php * Coping Tips http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/coping.php * Support Resources, including online and offline support group listings worldwide http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/support.php * Awareness information, and tips for making people more aware of our plight. http://fmcfsme.d-3systems.com/awareness.php Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help make your life a little better. Guest guest
Misty, Thanks again, for the validation. I think it's my own credibility I partly struggle with. All this time I thought I was just lazy and unsociable, and felt tremendous GUILT all the time. I guess at least when I thought it was just me and my imagination, I could believe I could just change it. Now I'm trying to re-aline my thinking----like what, NOT feel guilty? And disappoint my family who have boxed me into this space of worthlessness? Do you know what I'm saying? Guest guest
Joan, Sure, I understand. Dealing with any illness is difficult at best. But trying to deal with an invisible illness is even harder. You're constantly in doubt, as is everyone you come into contact with, as to what's real and what isn't. Coming to terms with an incurable illness isn't easy, or fast. It takes a long time and lots of support. I remember after I moved from upstate NY to S.C. I was talking to my new GP about the FM, how it made me feel, etc. At that point I'd had FM and CFS/ME for 12 years. Having been diagnosed for only 2 years. I remember my doctor saying to me that I needed to deal with my illness. I must have had a shocked expression on my face, I honestly felt I'd come to terms with this illness long before. when I asked why he'd say such a thing he responded... " you never tell anyone you're sick. " He was right. I kept it a secret from anyone I met. I even made my ex-husband promise not to tell anyone he worked with. I think part of it was I was ashamed of not being " normal " . I'm not really sure. But I do remember thinking my doctor was right, I needed to deal with ALL of my illness. So little by little I began telling people. When we got new license plates for the car I got handicapped ones. In time I've dealt with it all, but it's kind of like dealing with death.....there are many stages of grief....and there are many stages of dealing with FM.
