I remember reading somewhere, and sadly for the life of me I can not remember, that there are NO UPPER LIMITS and if your MD stays on top of labs and check ups to make sure all your other parameters are within normal limits. Living in pain is so much worse than taking opiates but of course that's controlled by your doc and you should have some input. Peggy, Long term studies show that there are not upper limits and as you say your doctor stays on top of your labs. Untreated pain actually damages more than the upper limit opioids. Depression of breathing is the problem that concerns the opoidphobia people, which defines those afraid of the usage of opioids. Dr. Forest Tenent and my previous doctor who is deceased, Dr. Hochman, dedicate and dedicated their life to making sure that patients were treated and titered up to the amount that their pain was manageable. There are many articles on this but below are two. Dr. Hochman gave us the articles as patients and kept us informed on options we had. Good pain management specialists do this. The FDA in January required limits of Tylenol in opioids which I think is good. The main reason that Tylenol is put in opioids is as they cannot be shot up and those without Tylenol or additives can be crushed and done so. Drug addicts and those who miss use opioids are the main reason for the problems with getting correct dosage for pain http://www.opiophobia.blogspot.com http://doctordeluca.com/wordpress/archive/overcoming-opiophobia You put on your rose colored glasses and I will get my magic wand and touch all in pain to get better : ) Wouldn't it be great if that is all it was?
