Guest guest
I have another question. As I stated in an earlier post, I had an HSG about 2 weeks ago. The doctor that did the HSG said that everything was completely " normal " and that even though he couldn't get the dye in to my right tube, (he said it was due to the recent operatative hysteroscopy) he was confident that everything was " normal " . I picked up the films from the test and brought them to my RE. I spoke with her last night. It turns out that my uterus is still very scarred on the right side. The manner in which it is scarred makes the shape of my uterus look completely normal (which is why I think the doctor said small but normal). She suggested that I have another hysteroscopy to have the rest of the scar tissue removed. However, I could still get pregnant and have a normal pregnancy even if I don't. Is this true? I am having the films sent to Dr. Indman to see what he has to say...but I guess my question would be why would I go through another hysteroscopy if I can get pregnant and have a normal pregnancy? My husband and I were so disappointed to hear this news after getting the green light. Thanks for your help! Suzanne
Guest guest
Hi Suzanne. You probably can get pregnant....maybe just less of a chance per cycle if half of your uterus is compromised. Not as much healthy area for a successful implant. Also...do you know what the healthy side measures? My Dr. always said that if an egg does implant, it will break up adhesions as your uterus grows and stretches. I also had a small area of scarring remaining after my 3rd surgery, but we opted to get everything clear just to be sure, and so we wouldn't go through months and months of ttc and then deciding to have the surgery at a later date. Good luck w/whatever you decide. cheryl
Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for the information. My lining measured about 6mm after I had the surgery. I think that if Dr. Indman recommends we have another operation we will go through with it, I just wanted to understand what would happen if I did get pregnant before, or if I even could get pregnant. Probably would be better to start with a clean slate. Thanks! Suzanne
Guest guest
Suzanne- I'm so sorry you didn't get the news you wanted to hear! I think it is certainly possible for you to get pg again- but it also may lead to a series of losses- the baby can't implant correctly on scar tissue- I'd wait for the second opinion from Dr Indman- and have the Hysteroscopy- why risk another loss- and possibly another D & C!- just my humble opinion! Guest guest
Suzanne: Oh my, that must be very frustrating.....to be told all is great and then be told it's really not. Ugh!! Well, I think your doctor is right in some ways....you MAY be able to conceive and carry even with your right side still scarred. The key word in that sentence being MAY. I was in the same situation. After my second hysteroscopy (my first with Dr. Valle) my HSG films came back showing an open cavity that was slightly smaller than usual and it turned out MY right side still had an adhesion band in it. Dr. Valle ABSOLUTELY recommended removal of this last bit of scarring before attempting pregnancy in order to give us the best chance possible. Here's why: When you have scar tissue blocking one side of your uterus you are quite literally reducing the " surface area " of your uterus. You simply have less " surface " space onto which an embryo could implant, a placenta could develop etc.... Although getting pregnant with scarring still in your uterus is not impossible, you would be reducing your chances of having a healthy full-term pregnancy. Getting pregnant with scarring could lead to poor (or no) implanation, poor placental development leading to miscarriage, placenta previa, placenta acreta....all of these conditions are often contributed to by having scar tissue present in the uterus during pregnancy. SOOOO, as your doctor says, you MAY be able to get pregnant even with that scar tissue in place....the question is, do you want to take that chance? Do you want to have LESS THAN the very BEST chance possible to have a good outcome? Does your need for a pregnancy NOW outweigh your need for the best shot at a healthy outcome? That's a decision only you and your DH can make....and depends on how much risk you are willing to take, and how much surgery you are willing to undergo. Can you afford another surgery? Will it be paid for? Can you take the time off of work? For me, it was a " no-brainer " and I scheduled another surgery the very day my HSG came back showing I still had scarring. But that is me and not you.....you do what's best for you. Just wanted to give you some things to think about. Best wishes in making your decision and let us know what you decide. Thinking of you! Guest guest
Thank you for the advice. I certainly do not want to lose another one. The more we think about it, the more likely we will have the second surgery. Thanks again! Suzanne
