The 'formula' for suppressive doses of Levothyroxine drugs is based on

weight. 2mcg per kg of body weight, so if you weigh about 100lbs., it

might be about right. But that is usually just a starting point and

sometimes we see people who take high doses even though they are not

heavy and vice versa. It may take several adjustments over the next

few months to find the right dose to keep your TSH suppressed.

Sometimes there is a lot of 'trial & error' in the beginning and your

Dr. will want to do bloodwork in 6-8 weeks to see if your TSH is where

it should be (<0.1).

Weighing in at 135lbs. and taking .150 Levoxyl

My endo wants me to take 100mcg - does that sound enough?

Hanna -

If you've seen the letters on the subject of dosages, you know that there's

a wide variation among us in suppressive T4 doses. Typically, we are

started off on a dosage based on our lean body mass, then 6 weeks later,

our TSH is checked and an adjustment is made. Then, six weeks later, check

again, adjust again if necessary, etc. etc. It usually takes a few tries

before the right dosage is found.

.... from Dr. Ain ....

" ... the mean replacement dose of levothyroxine is

2.0 micrograms per kilogram (2.2 lbs) per day. For

example, a 165 lb person would average 150

micrograms daily to suppress their TSH.

Of course, there is a wide range of variation

and there are many factors which are involved. "

See the letter in its entirety for recommendations on how to take and store

levothyroxine ....

Marilyn, Hello its me Terry I have a question for you or the group, Can you

please tell me the difference between Synthorid and Levoxyl, my drug store says

there is no difference. My new end ordered Levoxyl 150mcgs, and the drug store

gave me Synthorid 150mcgs and told me he thought I wouldn't mind. Is that right.

can a drug store change your prescription on his own, HELP I am really confused

now. Terry in PA
