Hi,

Doc dictates:

Upon removal of the dressings, the incision appears to be well s/l coaptated.

No signs of any postoperative infection noted.

I keep sending this in flagged and they never send me the correction.

Thanks

Beth

Beth,

Coaptated may be a correct word. Coapt means " to join or fit together; to

make fast, " coaptation means " joining or fitting together of two surfaces, "

so coaptated would mean " joined or fitted together. " An online source for

the definitions is http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/omd/; another is

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary.

On the other hand, I didn't find coaptated per se, so perhaps your dictator

made it up and it should really be coapted (analogous to adapt, adapted,

adaptation).

Anyone know?

Aah, thank you! There was an interesting article in Perspectives today on

the use of English language..actually a couple. One was from Dr. Lederer

reacting to Ann Landers. (RIP). I am sure it was written before Ann passed

this past week.
