Lyndi, It had gotten to 18 cm and we figured when I had the auto accident in 2006, it ruptured it so it grew as I have had it always and it was 3 cm. They took me into the x-ray room and used a catheter as it was a interlocler cyst (many chambers) and he couldn't rupture all of them and I woke up and had no pain medications and since he was a radiologist, he would not prescribe them. I was stuck there recovering and no meds and demanded to go home. It was horrible. Then I went to a urologist and they did surgery, took it out, went back in a week to make sure I was not retaining urine and I was good to go. Don't let them tell you they can take it out under fluoroscopy. The cyst was pressing on my spine causing some pain. I am glad I did it ! I stayed in hospital three days. I made sure I had all my meds though as sometimes the hospital pharmacy doesn't have brand meds. The reason I had it out is a second opinion orthopedist said " That's a friggin big cyst and needs to come out ! " Bennie

Mine was 3 cm for the years and then it just took off. It's at 20 cm now and taking up 'way too much space. I think it is giving me back pain, but it's hard to tell with all the back pain that's already going on. The doc says it's time to " look at getting it out of there. " Thanks for the info about what happened with your procedure. It gives me a clearer picture of what can or cannot happen during getting rid of the damned thing. Kaylene posted a site with some excellent info on procedures. I checked around today to find out if somebody locally can do a good job of the least invasive ones. Didn't have much success, so I'll keep looking. One of these days, I'll buck up, and go get rid of it. If I don't, it's just going to turn into a major problem. Thanks! Guest guest
Lyndi, It did help my back pain. I was surprised and a renown orthopedic surgeon suggested I get it taken out or I would not have thought twice as he said that nothing needs to be pressing against the cerebral spinal canal which mine was. It did help and did not hurt at all to have it surgically removed. It was removed through the front easy to get to and small scar with immediate recovery and one pain gone. If it were me I would go for getting it out and none of the threading up the ureter and poking on other organs to have perforations or soreness, just my opinion. I will never have them try to drain it as they do not know if it has interlocked chambers until they fluoroscope it. I saw the site Kaylene posted and it has those run a catheter up there and poke on it to get it out and I sway away from those. Most good urologists will check you with an ultrasound when you go in to see if your bladder empties, I had lab work, was admitted, given my meds, woke up with pain meds every three to four hours if pain over five and then toradol for inflammation and antibiotic and meds to go home on coordinated with my pain management doctor and saw him in two weeks, six months, and yearly. It did not come back and one pain was removed. Most urologists do it as laproscope and I do not want to search around for others that will do the jamming and laser, laproscope and removal was good enough for me. The Doctor asked if I minded if the staff held hands and prayed for a successful operation and to guide him for a good solution for me to be healthier. It was a very moving situation as it was of my faith and for a Doctor, husband, Nurse, two surgical technicians and myself holding hands while he prayed gave me a great peace. There are some good ones and if you had another belief, I am sure he would have offered up those mantras. Just wanted to share a good experience and let you know it helped and was recommended. I did not have to have a drain as some of the information stated and the Doctor stated if they return (which hardly happens, it is urine filled). They also send the fluid to pathology to make sure it is nothing bad. Bennie *Lyndi, this link http://urologyrbh.blogspot.com/2011/05/simple-renal-cyst-kidney-cyst.html shows the de-roofing, which I think what they did as they leave a little part in and it usually doesn't grow back, I forgot to tell you about that. Sorry, its been a few incidents ago so if they talk about de-roofing, it is common and they peel it away.
