Nervous about a Pain Management appointment

I have my first appointment with an actual pain clinic tomorrow and I'm a

little nervous. Up until now, my regular doctor has been prescribing my

meds and sending me to an " interventional pain management " doctor.

And up to now, I've been relatively happy here.but two things have made me look

into different options. 1) I want a second opinion on the stimulator. I'm not

100% convinced it's the best idea, and I want a second opinion. And 2)Though

I'm only on 30mg MS Contin 2x a day, up to 4 5mg Oxycodone a day and up to 4

Soma a day, my doctor has said he's not comfortable raising my medication.

Until Febuary, I was on 30mg OxyContin 2x a day, and it was

working GREAT, but the insurance stopped paying for it, so he switched me to

the MS contin, at the same MG nad it is just NOT as effective. The

Morphine to Oxy is different, and 30mg is not enough MS contin, but he won't

consider even raising me to a 40 at night and 30 in the morning. He says

I'm not " excessive, but it's top level " , and from listening to others, it is

NOT that much medication. I'd even try OTHER long acting meds, but my doc

is not comfortable with it. Added to that, the " interventional pain

management doctor " has totally dismissed my questions on the pump and is

PUSHING the stim, and that makes me nervous.

This doctor is in Springfield MO, so if anyone sees a doctor in that area,

I'd love to hear reports, comments, opinions. Private email to myshadowridge

@ gmail.com is fine. (remove the spaces,

this email is JUST for list email.) I don't want to release the name of the

clinic publicaly, but will privately. I want a doctor who is not scared

of narcotics, but is ready to look into other options too..

Thanks for listening.

((((((((Marta)))))))) Wish you luck with the appointment. I really hope it

works out. Some medication just not work for some people. I hate when the

insurance companies stop paying for something that worked!!! You know you can

appeal the insurance company's decision. Your doctor has to write a letter

stating that these other medications have been tried and are or are no longer

effective in managing your pain. Many times that is all that is needed.

It really does blow to have them refuse to pay. I know out of the pocket cost

can be expensive, even if the medication is genertic. :(

Let us know how you make out. Big gentle hugs, Tami :)

Marta,

Go to Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Mo. I am sure they have an excellent

pain management program, Get an individualized program and second opinion.

I wish I could, but St Louis is almost 6 hours away from me, so I don't

think I can make that drive.

Don't be nervous. Pain management docs really do care, listen and are helpful.
