Guest guest
I went thru the exact same thing. She was impressive at first then hurried n just wanted to be paid. A friend came up with the suggestion of making a checklist like, dishes washed and put away, wipe counter tops with Lysol. Be as specific as you can. And put a line at the bottom to be reviewed and signed off by you. Separate it into every visit tasks, then monthly. And annual. Be super-specific. Specify what types of cleaning. Products you want used on each surface and equipment used. I had someone sweep my carpet cause she said the vacuum was too loud. Another cleaning person sent my aunt into a tizzy because she mopped out of the toilet instead of a bucket! I don't like to hurt their feelings and they usually have a hard luck story. But business is. Business, you are the consumer and pay for quality consistent service. They may appreciate it so they can keep on working. hang in there. Guest guest
Well, first off, is the person bonded? What if she damages something? Do you have a list of what you want done each time she comes. Regular cleaning plus any " deep " cleaning project. Do you pay her by the week or by the day or month? There's no reason why you can't take your list and go through with her to comment on the work done. After all, she's working for you. Guest guest
Once you have a deep clean and everything is set up, your house should be in " maintenance " and it should never take a good cleaning person as long to do your home as the first few times. Watch what the cleaning person is doing so that you can ask for changes. --- Lori wrote: > > In Ohio. I just hired a cleaning person to deep clean weekly. The lady I had was short and did not clean ceiling fans and on top of armoires and I was paying her to dust. I just added things to do and said since you are uncomfortable with this, lets get these things done and listed them. If you have someone by the hour, it won't matter but if it is by a job that was estimated, be sure to ask what the amount that is charged includes. Laundry was hard for me to catch up with so I put that down and paid a little extra. To save money, I now break down the jobs I can do, and then my husband helps with the other jobs. I have someone that will come in by the hour and I will call her and say, I can spend this much, can you come and help and list the items that are most important or I am in behind with. I have my cleaning supplies in a plastic basket I can carry around and then some supplies in each bathroom so I don't spend time going up and down the stairs. I would make sure to catch it now though and when it is on a list, she can check it off. Bennie , l
Guest guest
Lori, I used to be a caregiver and I also had to clean bathroom, do the dishes, laundry, etc.  I take my time, I enjoy it but I had to watch my time also. Maybe she had time limit not sure. I would make a list and say it nicely and calmly that you want this person to do a good job. After all she is working for you. If she continues to hurry up to get the job done she is not doing her job right and maybe have to hire someone else. I will have surgery on my right ankle and I won't be able to clean my apartment. I'm hoping I get a nice person and will do the job right. All you can do is hire and fire until you find the right person. I hope this helps. Guest guest
I have someone come in 2x a week for 2 hrs each time. I give her a list of what I need done each day. If there is extra time, we do monthly cleaning. I had a person a year ago who started doing a slip-shod job. I had to fire her. I hated to do it, but it just kept getting worse. Good luck, Lynda > Lori wrote: > In Ohio. I just hired a cleaning person to deep clean weekly. Has done a good job, but isstarting to hurry through. Guest guest
My wife used to do this work before she gained citizenship and or green card. It is very difficult work and often underpaid. Might I ask: is this a service or independent person? Independent people get paid more as agency's will only pass part of what you pay to the workers. My wife worked by the hour so ask for more time but obviously you will pay more. If the pay is by the job, then rushing etc. is more likely and you may get a half-ass job. Keep I mind the others feelings as it seams you are and they will appreciate that. Leave a tip for good work will encourage the results you desire. Also give gifts for holidays and birthdays. Treat them as a friend and ask questions about their personal life and try to relate. This will make them feel wanted and appreciated. These are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head. Don't be afraid to have a talk with them explaining your expectations and if they are unwilling to comply you may need another. Finding good work is hard to but like I said once you find it be willing to go the extra mile to keep them and let them know how much you appreciate them for doing what you are unable to do. I know at times my wife was treated second class and like trash and has walk off of job sites. She ended up over time finally getting clients who she appreciated as much as they appreciated her. The relationships can be difficult and take time to establish. I hope this helps you. Again stay away from organizations as they promote underpaying of illegals who have no choice. > Lori wrote: > In Ohio. I just hired a cleaning person to deep clean weekly. Guest guest
Thank you for sharing. I cannot afford to tip on top of paying $90 weekly. Tip the groomer, the hair dresser, the sitter, the mail lady etc. It is too much! > hurtingleg > Leave a tip for good work will encourage the results you desire. I just hired a cleaning person to deep clean weekly. Has done a good job, but isstarting to hurry through. How do I get the deep cleaning I want without hurting the person's feelings? All, My cleaning ladies I treat as I would like to be treated and created a checklist so that their would be no miscommunication. I insisted that they eat when it is lunch time and asked what types of drinks they liked so I would have it on hand. I always had things picked up so they could vacuum, dust, and clean effectively. It is not their job to pick up my son's clothes etc. I have the laundry in laundry baskets. I have all the cleaning supplies in a plastic basket so that she can carry it around and have bathroom cleaners under the sink. I make sure that cleaning supplies are always available and not run out. I ask them what supplies they like, mop, broom etc. I also let them know what cleaners I like them to clean with and have the supplies all in one place. I appreciate this and holidays I tip but my cleaning lady is paid well and I don't feel I have to tip her. I don't give gifts but do give cards or mention Happy Birthday and talk about her kids and help anyone I can. I feel if you are paying them well, tips do not have to be given. Also, hiring illegal aliens is illegal in the U.S. so I would ask this upfront. You also need to ask if they report this on the tax returns and you are not going to do withholding.
