Guest guest Posted November 8, 2007 Report Share Posted November 8, 2007 AP: State-level forum for HIV+ women comes into being Wednesday November 7 2007 13:33 IST ENS GUNTUR: A State-level forum for HIV positive women was set up by an NGO, Chiguru, at Venkatapalem village in the district today. Delegates from 23 districts, who met in the village, elected a seven- member executive body. Jagdeesh of Guntur started Telugu Network of People Living with AIDS, HIV (TNP+) in 2003 and later it has been extended to all the 23 districts in the State. As many as 30,000 people affected by AIDS/HIV joined the network. It has been noticed that 70 per cent of them, that is, 20,000, were women. As a result, a district-level Positive Women's Forum has been set up. With a view to activating these forums, delegates from 23 districts met today to elect the executive body of the State-level Positive Women's Forum. While Swarna Vani (Krishna) has been elected State chairperson of the forum, Munni (West Godavari) was elected vice- chairperson. Jyotsna (Chittoor), Anjali (East Godavari), Girija (Nellore), Usharani (Kurnool) and Parvati (Guntur) have been elected executive members. Speaking on the occasion, Swarna Vani said that and an action plan would be formulated to ameliorate the sufferings of AIDS victims. She said the district committees would be in touch with the families of HIV-affected people at mandal level and submit a report to the State committee. Based on the report, the State committee would try to solve the problems of the victims at State and national level.
