> Hello all, I am writing this from the sofa in my living room - a place I spend

way too much time. Yesterday I set off on vacation with my husband, dropped keys

off at the house sitter's, packed the truck, slathered on sunscreen. We haven't

been to our vacation home at all this summer due to my back pain and I was

determined to get there. Well, an hour into the ride I switched with my husband

as I couldn't continue driving.

Kitty, try again. This time, if heat works on your pain, put on a

Thermacare wrap about an hour before you leave home. They last for up

to ten hours. If cold works, take cold packs with you in a cooler with

freezer packs in it. Change them as they warm up.

Take your pain meds a half hour before you leave and have some with you

in the car to take if what you took before leaving is enough. Stop

every half hour and hobble around outside the car for a few minutes.

And - let your spouse do all the driving - don't even try!

Hope that's helpful.

I agree with what Lyndi said.

Also, you can also buy " instant " hot and cold packs at your local pharmacy

or supercenter. They have some sort of chemicals in them where you squish

the bag, which causes a chemical reaction, which causes the pack/wrap to be

instantly hot or cold (depending on which kind you buy). The cold ones are

especially useful to take on trips if you can't bring a cooler with ice or

freezer packs in it (such as on a long trip where they would melt or warm

up).

My doctors say ice for pain, heat for comfort. I use both sometimes at the same

time on different parts of my body.

Plus I make my own pain cream which has been an awesome thing for not only me

but for many. I wish I could take full credit for this cream, but the formula

came to me in a dream, I researched it for

months afterwards and increased its strength to now be of great help, this is

besides my pain medicine all this together helps me to stay in my own home and

not in a care home.

My joint disease and spine degeneration disease, plus very severe arthritis,

diabetes and copd. It sounds bad very bad written out,

however, I am still in my own home, still drive and can do all the things I have

wanted. That includes my jewelry business and aromatherapy and art things that

I have done in art galleries. I thank God that I am still able to have good

days to mix and balance the bad days.

Are there any other artists in the group? or authors? I have four published

books myself. Creative souls normally have great pain thresholds. So I was

just wondering how many are in the group? I think it is great to get to know

people here and learn more about everyone.

What is some of the work all of you do? It is a big of who we are, right?

I certainly understand being a positive person, yet the light is beginning to

fade. I am upbeat, some say too positive, I always have believed the mind is a

powerful thing and with the right focus pain can even diminish its power. Yet

this last month that perception is beginning to not hold as much power it once

did. I have found out a new disability that has taken its toll on me, something

is very wrong with nerve and bones going from my left hip to my lumbar part of

my spine. I see a different pain specialist on the fourth of August

All,

I found the shoulder/neck Tiger Balm rub to help my back. Smells different than

Ben Gay but helps.

In Texas, they say, buy a long neck place it on the hurt place, make sure its

cold and if that doesn't

work, drink it. : ) Just a joke, Just a joke about the longneck beer.
