Guest guest
and/or Beth, I caught a post earlier regarding the administrator at the Tampa Shriner's Hospital...Dr. Armstrong. Did I understand correctly that he is fairly new in Tampa...and comes from Salt Lake City? Was he part of the move towards the Ponseti method in SLC? I could quite possibly have misunderstood some, or all, of the post. The reason I'm asking is that we just received our appointment card for 's follow-up visit with Dr. Grogan at the Tampa Shriner's Hospital. Our past experience with the clubfoot and brace issue has not been a good one, and we were considering cancelling his appointment, as we have found another doctor closer who is willing to follow up as Dr. Ponseti has directed. Personally, I would like to see Dr. Grogan just to 'prove' that the Ponseti method does work (without an attitude <G>), but my husband feels like it would be a waste of time, considering the history. But if the administrator there is pro-Ponseti, it may be worth it to other children in the long run. In Him, Kim
Guest guest
Kim and Beth, Beth, you are correct, Dr. Armstrong is the correct name. Kim, Dr. Armstrong has recently become an administrator with the National Shriners Headquarters which is located about 10 miles away from the Tampa Shriners Hospital at International Shrine Headquarters 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607-1460 http://www.shrinershq.org/shc/tampa/tampamap.html Also he is has not used the Ponseti method, but he spoke about how to do the surgical methods at the AAOS Convention durring the " Clubfoot Controversies " instructional course that I attended. Dr. Ponseti was also there and the speaker before Dr. Armstrong was a Dr. Jay Cummings from Nemuors in ville, Fla. who had spoken about non- surgical methods including Dr. Ponseti's. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nosurgery4clubfoot/message/6140 After the talks, I got to speak to Dr. Armstrong and we had a good conversation about non-surgical treatment methods. I encouraged him to try to help spread the non-surgical approaches throughout the Shriners system. He also mentioned that he had transferred from the Intermountain Shriners in SLC within the past few months. Until takling to Dr. Santoro, I did not realize that Dr. Santoro had gone to work at the SLC Shriners about the same time that Dr. Armstrong would have been there. Dr. Santoro said that they knew each other, but I didn't ask him if they had discussed the Ponseti method before Dr. Armstrong left for Tampa. I think that Dr. Armstrong had also been an administrator in SLC and has not recently been treating children himself. I also did not get the impression from his talk that Dr. Cummings from Nemours in ville used the Ponseti method himself, just that he had been assigned to speak on non-surgical treatment methods. He presented what he had learned about the Kite/Lovell, Ponseti, Bensahel and Dimeglio non-surgical methods. You can read the text of both doctors handouts in the files section of this site under reference information. and (3-17-99) > and/or Beth, > > I caught a post earlier regarding the administrator at the Tampa Shriner's > Hospital...Dr. Armstrong. Guest guest
Hi Kim, I think it is so wonderfull how your little Christpher is doing. Remember you have been a big part in his feet doing so well, with out the faithfullness of the parents and the determination to advocate for your child the outcome would not be so positive. I think you should go to your Shriner visit for the educational value. Go for that and don't have any expectations from anyone just be a good witness (I know you can do this) I also think it would not be a bad idea for folks to write to Dr. Armstorng as he is the new Director of Medical Affairs for all the Shriners. I know you need to do what is best for your family, let me know how things go.
