Lyndi, Are you on timed medication? As i was told never to do this, as the withdrawal pain, with the pain response escalating, causing the cardiac adrenal response,(body excreting more cortisol, causing increase adrenal, stimulates a cardiac response and cause the blood pressure and heart rate and nervous system responses) Did you do this by yourself the first time? Actually, my doctor states if I every wanted to do this, it would be under hospital supervision and he also if you want to go off your meds does it under and with a anesthesia so that there are no side effects or withdrawal and you are there the person you were without any pain meds. He never encourages me to do this the way you aay but sure some patients can do this safely under Doctor's instruction and addresses the issue called hyperalgia the condition that you take pain meds so long, the actual taking of them causes pain because you are tolerant and they are not covering the pain. 'http://www.ncpainmanagement.com/DrugHolidays.htm is a good article on this although sponsored by a drug addiction program in Nursing magazine. If you take Drug Holidays and can go without your medications for up to three weeks, why do you take them at all? This is what I have always wondered. Since my blood pressure goes up because of my pain levels, blood pressure does not decrease it. This has been proven with pain patients, you can give them blood pressure medication to make their blood pressure down and no pain meds and they still have high blood pressure. When you give them pain medication, their blood pressure goes down. My Doctor explained it like this for me to understand that my blood pressure is caused by me pain. When I went in for an outpatient procedure and I held my pain meds, and my blood pressure is high, when they give me the sedation the blood pressure goes down. If my blood pressure would been caused by a systemic problem, it would have stayed up. I do not feel well in the first place and feel it something you do when your mind is in the right place and am not against it but some medical professionals do jump on the boat that if you can go on the drug/medication holiday, why don't you titer all the way off? They are so concerned with the mg of a medication rather the if the pain of the patient is covered and the other body systems do not get effected ? So hyperalgia, increases pain if you increase medication as of the tolerance of the medication could benefit also. Do you have your liver tested? My lab values are normal and I have them tested every six months. Bennie

I popped in to see him once a day for a week. The only thing he was actually concerned about was an that my BP might elevate, as the pain elevated. It did of course, but since I've been checking my own BP for about 30 years now, it really wasn't an issue. I'm almost due for a medication break. However, it is so bloody hot out that I'm not going to attempt it until the temperature drops to something tolerable. Thanks to having heat stroke years ago, I react very badly to heat at the best of times. Lyndi

Any less than that and the body doesn't have a chance to show how it's really doing. I almost lasted a month once. :-) Lyndi
