I'm only 47 and have gotten permission to join the senior center. I miss having

my elders around anyway. It's free!!!

Have you tried a swimming fitness club? There's a lift to help those with

mobility issues into the pool.

Have you tried woodworking? You may need help. Do you have any young kids in

your area to help.

There's home helpers firms that help you do anything you want including

gardening. Same for care.com.

I get real lonesome too. It gets difficult when all you have to look forward to

in the way of social contacts is doctors appointments.

Randy,

Where in Chicago do you live? I live in Illinois, too. Do you get the site

called Free Things To Do in Chicago? It lists things that are either free or

inexpensive.

I live too far to come unless it's really something I want to do and then I can

stay with my son. But you might see things on there that you would be

interested in doing.

Also, do you have access to the library? They have free CDs with music and

recorded stories that you can listen to. Sometimes I like listening to those.

You can also go on line and find games to play. I don't do that so much but

know others that do.

If you are close to a nursing home, there are so many people who don't have

family to talk to. You don't have to do anything but sit and talk or read to

someone. That makes their day and gives you a good feeling too.

I am like you and have to have a purpose for getting up each day or life would

be boring.

ALL,

I have three fur-kids, two cairn terriers (cairn terrors really) and a bossy

cat. All are rescue, they are my reason for getting up. They comfort me when I

am down and sick. They know I am in pain and will come up and snuggle with me

and my Elliot loves to get under my armpit and lay his head on my chest.

I belong to rescue groups and write grants for them and I can do this from home.

I sometimes go to Pogo.com and they have free games. I love Squelches,

a game that you have to collect these sea animals in rows that are different

colors. If you lose, they say " Ahhhh " and run away run away.

I have not been to the site for a while but you can also pay card games with

others and they chat. I do not play bridge well but I do use their Scrabble game

as I like word games. This keeps the mind busy.

There is also a site, Adopt A Soldier, that assigns you a soldier to write to,

encourage, and send things(only if you want to). The purpose of this site is to

encourage them and a e mail really makes a difference.

So there are lots of things you can do from your bed with a laptop. Hope some of

these ideas work for you.

Good luck Bennie
