I think it depends on the type of carpet you have and how much fur is in it and how many kitty toys on it :-) My neighbour has a one story and no pets, no kids, no spouse. The Roomba does pretty much what she needs it to do, but it does miss spots. Like you, I have kitty toys, kitty fur, and people mess to deal with. My fairly new Dyson upright and my older Kenmore canister model were both falling down on the job. I flung caution to the wind and bought one of those new Shark uprights. I bought it locally, at a store where I could return it, if I didn't like it - no questions asked. My living room had been vacuumed the night before with the Dyson. I proceeded to vacuum it with the Shark upright. It took so much more stuff out of the carpet that I actually felt embarrassed. (I was alone at the time :-) I had to dump the dirt out five times before it was finished picking up what the Dyson left behind. I figured it would be good, but sure wasn't expecting it to be that good. Every time I use it, the thing amazes me. My ideal vacuum would be that Shark upright in a self propelled model. They don't make a self propelled model, so I have to stop and start a lot. It's not heavy at all, but it's got incredible suction, so its a bit harder to push. Easy to drag though :-) I've three Shark house cleaning appliances now and they're all excellent and low maintenance. Bonus that they're all light enough for me to handle. I wish I'd been on the ground floor getting some stock or owning part of the company or something, when they first got going. They've been hitting home runs for the last two or three years. I hope they keep it up. We gimpy people need all the economical, hard working, appliance help that we can get. Lyndi (sadly with no shares in Shark - maybe I should write to them and they'll let me do an infomercial! lol)
Guest guest
I used to have a dyson animal for years too...until it broke. And what a coincidence, I got a shark next too! Mine worked great when I first got it, and it is still my main vacuum, but it definitely does not have the same power it once had. I've had it maybe 2 years now. There are filters that you have to replace, and I'm not a big fan of that...but I do like the lightness of it. Very awkward to try to clean on stairs though...but most vacuums are for me. Cheers, -Crystal > My ideal vacuum would be that Shark upright in a self propelled model. They don't make a self propelled model, so I have to stop and start a lot. Crystal The filters easily pop out for washing. I rinse mine out regularly. (just don't wring them out - squeeze the moisture out with a towel and let the dry before popping them back in the vacuum). The replacement filters are also cheap, but since I wash mine, I haven't had to buy new ones yet. the Navigator Lift Away solves the problem of being awkward on stairs. Helpfully? :-) Lyndi
