Guest guest
Dear , The CVS can be done in fairly early pregnancy. Amnio is done around 16 weeks. CVS is sort of like having a lengthy pap smear, while watching ultrasound. Not a great experience, but not horrendous or terribly painful either. The waiting for results stage will make you crazy though, but I guess not as crazy as waiting an entire 9 months without knowing. I have done both, and could not have waited 9 months to know. But that is a personal decision that only you can make. (mother of , 11 wcf, and , 3 nocf)
Guest guest
> Liza, Congratulations! The best presents are always surprises. I have 2 children. One prior to my UC & PSC diagnosis, the other after. I would love to have another one, but my husband feels that he is to old.....(Sorry off topic, any how). My pregnancy was great. I felt better during my pregnancy, than I had before. I remained on urso during pregnancy, and even nursing(I was on low dosage then). My alk phos, and all other test returned to normal levels during pregnancy. After pregnancy they shot back up, higher than before pregnancy. They have now returned to levels comparable to before pregnancy. I did not see a high risk OB, but my GI and OB did stay well connected. Guest guest
Liza, I had my son in 2000 after being diagnosed in 1998. The pregnancy wasn't a cake walk, but it all turned out for the best. Some of the meds that I took during pregnancy included: Urso (for PSC) Asacol (for UC) Questran (for itching) Atarax (for itching) Terbutaline (to stop contractions) Procardia (to stop contractions) Ampicillian (keep infections at bay Vitiman K injections (blood wasn't clotting right w/o it) I even had an ERCP before my 20th week so that we could get my ducts clean before the baby was taking up too much real estate in there. (So I had sedation meds, too.) My suggestions are these - first, get a good perinatologist or a great OB who can work closely with your liver specialist. Coordinated care worked wonders for me. Throughout your pregnancy be more of a hypocondriac than you ever have been - being one helped my doctors identify and stop my preterm labor before it progressed. Because I was vigilant and did everything my doctors told me and was a little lucky, my son was born a month early, but mostly healthy. (He was 6 lbs at 35 1/2 weeks! I often wonder how big he'd have been if he'd gone to term!) He's now 3 1/2 years old and the apple of my eye! He's smart, healthy, and an all around great kid - can't you tell I'm his mother?! Hope this helps! The two months of bed rest, the itching of cholestatsis of pregnancy, and all the shots and exams were worth it more than words can say! I know you're scared, but parenthood is wonderful - just hang in there! Do you have any other kids? If there's anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask. Take care, Deb in VA >
