Guest guest Posted February 1, 2008 Report Share Posted February 1, 2008 Prioritizing Second-Line Antiretroviral Drugs for Adults and Adolescents: a Public Health Approach: Report of a WHO Working Group Meeting National HIV/AIDS programmes are requesting additional operational guidance on the composition of their antiretroviral (ARV) formularies based on programme efficiencies and costs. As these drug formularies are generally limited in developing countries, there is an increasing and urgent need to establish principles and adequate criteria to prioritize ARV options in this context. Prioritization of agents for use in 2nd†" line regimens, comprising protease inhibitors, nucleoside and nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors are needed. This report provides guidance on simplified second-line regimen options that countries can choose and will also inform readers about future revisions of the WHO ARV treatment guidelines.
