Thanks Anne,

I'm going to ask the metabolic doc next week at our appointment - my son

seems to have problems with carbs so we are using more protein/fat foods -

but when I look at his protein intake, its higher than the ration noted in

another email on TPN.

I'll let you all (for those interested) what the doc tells me.

My son also shows chronic low amino acids despite high protein (someone else

posted this also) - wonder if its a mito issue? Is it a common thread with

some of the kids on the list? At first the docs said a malnutrition issue

but when they looked at our diet they were stumped.

Have his urine levels been tested? Sometimes if the plasma levels are low it is

because the urine levels

are high. This happens in mito when there is renal tubular dysfunction. The

tubules in the kidneys are

responsible for filtering the blood; keeping the good stuff and wasting the bad

stuff in urine. When

there is a dysfunction, then sometimes the good stuff gets wasted in the urine,

which in turn would cause

the plasma (blood) levels to be low.
