Tuesday, May 13, 2008: Training programme to curb infections Staff Reporter Thiruvananthapuram: The Hospital Infection Prevention Committee at the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, has launched a training programme in infection control and asepsis protocols for its doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. The programme, sponsored by the National Rural Health Mission and coordinated by the Prevention of Epidemics and Infectious Diseases (PEID) Cell at the MCH, is on the lines of the infection control training module implemented at SAT Hospital following the hospital infection episode at its neonatal unit in May last year. All doctors, house surgeons, nurses and cleaning staff will be imparted training in batches over a period of two months. The programme was formally inaugurated on Monday by NRHM State Mission Director Dinesh Arora. The focus of the training programme will be on minimising nosocomial infections and how the current practices of infection control can be improved to this end. The training module on asepsis protocols was prepared byEngender Health, an NGO based in New Delhi, which is promoting safe and sustainable health services. The course is intended to help health service providers, doctors, medical students and nurses strengthen infection prevention practices in low resources settings. http://www.thehindu.com/2008/05/13/stories/2008051360790300.htm Vijayabhaskar Reddy Kandula Vijayabhaskar Reddy K, MD, MPH Technical Director HIV Treatment, Care and Support EngenderHealth Mob:+91-98806 37905, Phone: 91- 80 - 4040 0200 x 207 Fax: 91-80-40400300 e-mail: <emailreddy@...>
