Guest guest
Anyone can be tested to see if they have one copy of a cf gene which presumably would mean that they carried some version of gene penetration. The problem is the same as with testing for CF itself; as there are 900+ mutations known to date, most with some degree of penetration and expression, unless the individual is tested at some place like s Hopkins or Toronto where they are, under justifying circum- stances, willing to test for all known genotypes, the test may not result in determi- nation of actual status as carrier or cfer. Usually 30 to 70 genotypes are tested for, starting with DeltaF508. I hope this helps, n Rojas ps info from Stanford and UCSF cf centers who use a dna lab at San Capistrano, California

Guest guest
Charlotte, We had our 6 year old son wocf tested.WhenEilish was bornLiam was 3 and they just gave him a sweat test to make sure he didnt have cf(although he'd already had ).Then when we were going through theIVF process last year(Which we've know abandone) they took his blood and tested him for his carrier statusHe doesnt even carry it. So know we know. The blood test wasnt as bad asI thought it would be. cf gene > does anyone know how you would go about finding if brothers or sisters without CF carry the Cf gene... that have a sibling with CF? > > i know that sounds confusing! > > charlotte banks > > >
Guest guest
Hi Charlotte, You don't say where you are from. If you are from the UK then simply go to your GP and ask them to send you for the blood test. Providing that you are reasonably related to somebody wcf there shouldn't be a problem. If there is change your GP !! Guest guest
Charlotte, If your son has two identifiable mutations, then they can test for those mutations. The Genzyme 90+ allele test is considered to be the most comprehensive, right now, I th ink.... anyway, your CF clinic should be able to help with this.... Guest guest
Hi, Charolette- After our older daughter was diagnosed at 6 & 1/2 (just a year and a half ago), we had our four yr. old blood tested and then sweat tested. She was positive as being a carrier with the blood test so we had the sweat test shortly after-negative thank goodness! God luck-Christy, mother of Kassi w/cf and Kylii-carrier Banks wrote: > does anyone know how you would go about finding if brothers or sisters without CF carry the Cf gene... that have a sibling with CF? > > i know that sounds confusing! > > charlotte banks > >
Guest guest
My sister-in-law lived in Scotland when we found out Eilish had cf. And she went to the dr and was given some sort of throat gargle thing that she gargled then spat in back in the container then sent it somewhere (Im not sure where). Apparently they can do DNA on the saliva and they let her know that she carried F508 from that and it was so simple and she never went near the dr to get the result. cf gene > >Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 11:43:43 -0600 > > > >does anyone know how you would go about finding if brothers or sisters > >without CF carry the Cf gene... that have a sibling with CF? > > > >i know that sounds confusing! > > > >charlotte banks > > > > > >
