Guest guest
She is right as far as wearing out the pancreas, from what I've read in five years on diabetes lists. I'm glad to hear that Vermont as a state isn't prescribing sulfs any more. There are much better and more effective pills nowadays. Guest guest
(to continue)...however, and unfortunately, they are still being prescribed by many, many docs worldwide, alas. At my very own hospital - which has an excellent diabetes education center (and where I was first pointed in the direction of low carbing) there are many docs who still prescribe sulfs and NPH insulin also, even though there are much better alternatives Both sulfs and insulin are well known for causing lows and the need to " feed " the pills/insulin to keep from going low. Guest guest
> Is anybody here taking sulfonylureas? It seems I remember seeing folks talk > about them. **Check the archives. We've had tons of discussion about them. They are becoming outdated, and while they only help wear out the pancreas, if the patient is not in good control, the can cause frequent and severe hypoglycemic episodes as well. Guest guest
You could ask your doc about changing to a non-sulf medication. There are many...Glucophage is very successful for a lot of people...Starlix is another. Glucovance is a combination of Glyburide (another " really old " sulf) & Glucophage. In both cases, you were prescribed Glucophage and a Sulf, in combination. Guest guest
Donna, are you going hypo and feeding the hypo's? That is part of the problem with sulfs, because if you're feeding hypos, you're sabotaging your weight loss plan.
