I'm a bit chicken to decide . > > Cheers All, This is always a debate but my point has been they are two seperate conditions and " situational depression " can be treated with cognitive therapy and learned skills but taking anti depressants is not " shameful " and helpful. Sometimes when pain is controled, depression is not present. So that is the only reason I say that sometimes you do not have depression present. Anytime you have a loss of something that is important to you, depression can set in, depending on your support systems. Continual chronic pain wears on the body and can deplete serotonin and depression occurs no matter the support systems. I remember in the seventies Dr . Simonton taught children with brain tumors to think or imagine Pac Man gobbling up all their tumors and bad blood cells. He now is Director Of Simonton Cancer Center and Bernie Segal also adapts to the techniques and advocates taking a surviorship attitude and using these techniques to overcome and deal with cancer pain.
