All,

This is always a debate but my point has been they are two seperate conditions

and " situational depression " can be treated with cognitive therapy and learned

skills but taking anti depressants is not " shameful " and helpful. Sometimes when

pain is controled, depression is not present. So that is the only reason I say

that sometimes you do not have depression present.

Anytime you have a loss of something that is important to you, depression can

set in, depending on your support systems. Continual chronic pain wears on the

body and can deplete serotonin and depression occurs no matter the support

systems.

I remember in the seventies Dr . Simonton taught children with brain tumors to

think or imagine Pac Man gobbling up all their tumors and bad blood cells.

He now is Director Of Simonton Cancer Center and Bernie Segal also adapts to the

techniques and advocates taking a surviorship attitude and using these

techniques to overcome and deal with cancer pain. Good article, thanks for

sharing it. Bennie
