Guest guest
Hi Crystal, One of the most important things a long term chronic pain person can do is master the art of distraction. As you mentioned, and most of us can verify, our meds do not and never will provide us with complete relief. They simply take the edge off and allow us to function! I manage a restaurant and nothing is better then a busy shift. I am feeling my best when I am focused and " distracted " . I use many other distraction techniques including reading books, movies, interaction with people I like, meals, and so on. Every one is different so find out what works for you. Distraction is simply one of the best tools we can use and I have had 2 doctors tell me that.
Guest guest
I too feel best when I am distracted, but when I am distracted, I tend to overdo it and I pay dearly for it. And I pay for it for anywhere from one to two days if I'm lucky, but frequently I pay for it for up to a week and a half. I miss the days when the meds still took the edge off. There is [almost] nothing that I would not give to get rid of this pain. Some days I look back on everything that this disease has stolen from me and it brings me to tears.
