Guest guest
Welcome Lou to the group. This group is very good for leaning on. I came back not long ago and this group has helped me as I face building my new normal and work on pain relief. Good luck getting into pain management. It can certainly be a big help. Guest guest
Welcome Lou! Glad you found us. this is a great group as you have seen from the posts. I am sorry to hear that you are living with some much pain. I have chronic pain and headaches from early onset of osteoarthritis in my neck. It has spread to my shoulders and back in the last 5 years. I am so thrilled to have been referred to pain management. It does not completely take the pain away, but I can manage most days. I had a hard time with my ex primary also. He would not refer me even after I asked 3 times. I went to a chiropractor out of frustration. The first visit he referred me! I have found that we have to be our own advocates and not back off. I know it is hard for those who do not deal with what we do to understand. They do not understand the daily and even minute to minute struggle. I hope you get relief soon! Gentle hugs, Tami >Lou wrote: > I've come to accept that my stump defines most aspects of my life. It only allows me to sleep for 2 hrs at a time, then it wakes me up. Nerve pain beats any alarm clock. So I'm usually sleep deprived, 5 hours in an hour or two segments is a great night. > > My pain control is currently lousy. I'll talk more about that later. I did manage to get a referral to a pain management clinic again, and I've got my fingers crossed they accept me. My primary care is strongly opposed. I am not an amputee, but have nerve damage in both my upper legs. It happened during bilateral knee replacement surgery 10 years ago. It wasn't anyone's fault, just one possible problem that can happen in surgery. It took a long time to find the right medications to keep me reasonably stable. My husband and I try to swim at the hot springs not far from here. It's a bit pricey for a 6 month pass, but it's the only exercise that truly helps us both. I hope you find someone who will work with you about better pain management. Why is your primary care physician opposed about the appointment? My psychiatrist handles my bipolar disorder medications, and my pain medications too. I saw a counselor for a long time, and will see him again if any new problems arise.
