I didn't think there were so few drugs to treat fibromyalgia but my pain doctor has until your e-mail confirmed what I had researched. I should have kept going. I looked at the website and will look more on it. I do not have sleep apnea but when I do have trouble sleeping I either take Valerian root or melatonin with a Benedryl tablet. Except if I wake with muscle spasms I cannot do a thing and my fretting and anxiety can get the best of me so to combat that I listen to music while meditating. I cannot say it is always easy. I have found that Savella can act like an antidepressant. Although not approved my pharmacist thinks it will be in 20 years when a generic can be made the company that created Savella will go ahead and seek approval for dual use. If it had not acted as such I would have had to go off the Savella and have a sedative given to me. An approved antidepressant can not be taken with Savella according to my doctor because of dangerous side effects. I have had depression since I was very young so I know I could not go without especially with this pain. Christy

Hi Christy I've had fibromyalgia for about 45 years. In that time, I think I've tried 4 dozen medications, most of which did nothing helpful. I am quite medication intolerant, so I react quite quickly with some of the nastier side affects. Savella, Topomax, Neurontin, Lyrica, every antidepressant I tried, etc. were gawdawful for me. Over the years, I've found that for me, safe stretching exercises (taught to me by a good physiotherapist), alternating cold and hot packs on areas that really hurt, and a good attitude, are the three main things that get me through each flare. If you aren't doing any physiotherapy exercises, I highly recommend having a good physiotherapist teach you some safe and helpful stretches. Also, the hot and cold therapies are really helpful. Those three things really help with muscle spasms. I do have a problem with getting adequate rest these days, as I have several other pain issues that are actually overshadowing the fibro pain. I keep hot and cold packs at home and at work. When I travel, my favourite pillow and my packs travel with me. :-) We're glad to have you back.
