My specialty is heirloom vegetable gardening. I usually plant an acre of vegetables every year, three crops a year, and this will feed my husband and me for the year. Unfortunately this year my heart decided enough was enough and the flare-up of Crohn's hit me, so my beautiful garden is out there neglected. Hi Jeanne B Welcome to the group, I am so sorry that you need us, but a group like this can be a life saver. It certainly has been for me. I had a friend who lives with Crohn's disease, she finally had an ileostmy, and was able to get on with her life. We were both in our early 20's, this was back in the last 1970's, but we have long since lost touch, so I don't know how the long term affects have been. Prior to her surgery spent many, many days lying on the bathroom floor. She didn't have the strength to go back and forth between the bedroom and the bathroom. Two of her siblings developed Crohn's not long after she did. My heart ached for her. Cat's are very fond of late night e-mailing. That's one good thing about a lap top computer, I can keep it closed. It's a shame you had to quit gardening. This sounds like a good spot for a neighborhood garden. So many people have no access, or cannot afford fresh vegetables. Once again, welcome to the group. I'm so happy to hear that you have a large loving family. It is always delightful to know that two people can build a life together for 45 years. My parents were married for 49 years before Dad passed away in 1997. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome Kaylene! I bit the bullet and tomorrow will go to the pain management doctor. Hopefully my husband will actually come with me, but I'm not betting on it. Since he just dumped me at the hospital ER when I was having a heart attack I've lost a bit of confidence in him as care-giver. I can empathize with your friend . My Crohn's is the jejunoileitis form so eventually I'll have to go to the pouch. Today was spent in the bathroom with a lot of hugging the toilet so I went ahead and used antiseptic wipes to clean what I could reach between heaving. I hate what my house looks like now. Was able to get enough veggies out of the garden to make a large pot of vegie soup today and some Red Bisbee cowpea seeds saved for the future. Dratted tremors in my hands are so bad today I had to use kitchen shears to snip the herbs and aromatics for the soup along with the vegetables. I'll bite the bullet and take a neurontin later. I despise that pill because it makes the brain fog so horribly bad it is like instant Alzheimers then it makes the tremors evern worse as it wears off so I wonder why I even take it to begin with. A laugh for you. I was sitting here watching a movie on the computer while shelling dry Red Bisbees to save for next garden. Since it was time for my next pill " meal " , I put all the pills out in front of the keyboard and started taking them. Unfortunately the cowpeas are the same color as Asacol so I ended up taking several cowpea seeds along with the pills! Laughing here. Is that crazy or what? I stoppedpopping the seeds down after thinking " I thought I had already taken the Asacol. " Hoping everyone is dealing with the pain today and it is a good day. I'm dreading this visit tomorrow but hoping that he isn't one of those pain doctors who does the one procedure fits all epidural and trigger point injections. Anyone comes near my abdomen with a needle is going to see my backside as I run for the door. Well, I'll hobble quickly. The last pain control doctor I went do was crazy about doing epidurals (for guts?) but then he could get $2,500 for an epidural and just a couple hundred for writing scripts so I had to wonder if that was more the reason for the epidurals. I'm hoping son number 4 will be taking me to the pain management doctor. He is one of us and lives with constant pain due to several spiral spinal fractures. He has wanted to get on as a patient of this particular pain management practice, so perhaps he can get in via his old mother. He knows my meds, hospitalizations, surgeries and things better than I do so he makes a good advocate for me. The shaking is getting pretty bad so hitting the right keys is harder. I'll be a good patient and go ahead and take that dratted gabapentin (neurontin). Oh I hate this pill but hate the tremors even more. Maybe I'll be able to feed myself some soup tonight and it might stay down without making the gut pain worse. Hope everyone does well tonight.
