Guest guest
Ellen, I believe Medicare starts two years after you become eligible for disability, not two years after you're approved. At least, that's what my judge told me. Otherwise, they'd save a fortune on Medicare costs by delaying payment of SSDI. I could be wrong, but you might want to call 800-MEDICARE (800- 633-4227) for more information and to confirm what I was told. If you make too much for Medicaid, many states have a program called Adult Basic (less comprehensive version of CHIP, but for adults). What state do you live in? What state do you live in? Steve, I got disability six months after being out of a job, you must go to the website and check these things. CHIP is a COBRA program and a rip off, they are high end insurance and try to spin it as difference. I have just been through this with out son. I advise going to the website first and doing the self checklist about disability and the checklist and then get your ducks in a row , so to speak. The website is very informative and if you do call and they ask you are you wanting to file a claim today, don't as that will count as your first request and if you are just asking questions, you have lost one chance. Also, I encourage everyone to go down face to face and speak to the person as that helps . Here is the official website which has checklists, publications, planners and assessment information. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/planners/about.htm Bennie
Guest guest
Moderator's Note: To our non US members - American Medicare pays 80% of all medical coverage. As in many other countries, where 100% Medicare is available to all ages, exclusions include eye glasses, dental, and has caveats on prescription pricing. ---------------- Lori writes: Medicare elgibility started two years after my ss approval date, which was backdated two years. It took two years to get approved! My lawyer is wonderful, it is the system that sucks! Got approved the day before my hearing. My lawyer submitted a 16 page letter with a ton of medical records! Medicare is crap insurance. No eye. No dental. No prescriptions. Limits, exclusions. Medicaid is so much better, which seems unfair! Guest guest
Lori It's too bad everyone can't have the comprehensive coverage of Medicaid with the freedom (a lot of providers and no prior authorization). We deserve universal healthcare " No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick " That may be " socialist " , but I don't care. We're a socialist country (libraries, schools, roads, etc) Steve M in PA, age 21 > Lori wrote: > Medicare is crap insurance. No eye. No dental. No prescriptions. Limits, exclusions.
