Guest guest
All, Midrin was not taken off the market by FDA, it seems after all these years, the manufacter could not find one of the ingredients to keep manufactering it, and had never applied for approval thru the FDA. So, since it never was approved by the FDA and the manufacter could not find the ingredients to make it, they stopped making it. In a FDA letter posted on the internet, they state: The loss of Midrin as a treatment option isn't good news for us. The likelihood of any company investing the time and research dollars necessary to apply to the FDA for a drug equivalent to Midrin is slim. Yes, many people are still using it, but far fewer than before the triptans were developed, and triptan usages is up. The cost of triptans is down since two of them are now available as generics. So that is the mystery of Midren. I have found this problem, over the years, to happen to several effective medications I have taken. I took a medication, when I was younger, (Esidex, I think) that helped with menstral cramps and my doctor told me to go and get how many I could before the removal date and he would write the prescription amount for me. I went to many pharmacies trying to get as many as I could. It seems that it has a minut amount of amphetimines in it because that dilated blood vessels and it also gave an " up " so you didn't lie there not wanting to get up. They took it off the market because it was not listed, not that it was not allowed and the company did not want to go through to expense to redistribute it. Sad that effective medications are taken off when they were helping other. Bennie
