Guest guest
I switched from Cymbalta to citalopram (Celexa) due to the cost. I couldn't get off the Cymbalta any other way. Need antidepressant for depression. Is the Lyrica really working for you? I get relief from neurontin (Gabapentin). CVS and many other pharmacies have a plan where you can buy 90 days worth of many generics for less than $15. That's how I keep my cost down. I have prescription insurance but generics are $10 a month. Not a savings to me. Guest guest
Have you went to DHS? The sooner the better. There are also online programs that can help. I got the extra help program by applying online and because I have medicare, medicaid and this program I don't have to pay any co-pays on my meds in network. I haven't had a med yet that they haven't paid for. I am on 13 meds and most of them are for mental problems. I have several different pain meds too. Good luck. I wish I knew more to say. I'll say a prayer for you. Good Luck >Ellen wrote: >I am quickly approaching a time when my money will become so short, that it may be necessary to miss a month or 2 of meds until I have proof of no income for the free plans. Call your doctor and see if she has any free samples. Kaylene
Guest guest
Good advice. Is neurontin a substitute for Cymbalta? I am on Wellbutrin. I had an allergic reaction to Celexa. However was on it years ago. I wonder if it didn't like a combination of other meds. Guest guest
Neurontin was before Lyrica, made by the same company. Lyrica was approved for sale after Neurontin became eligible for generic sale. They work similar having gabapentin but Lyrica uses a smaller amount of gabapentin and another ingredient I can't remember at the moment. It was approved for Fibromyalgia where as Neurontin is an anti seizure type drug. I took Wellbutrin for several years, then it was ineffective. Wellbutrin is offered as a generic now, in case you want to switch to save money. >Ellen wrote: > >Is neurontin a substitute for Cymbalta? I am on Wellbutrin. >I had an allergic reaction to Celexa. Guest guest
Celexa (citalopram) is only an SSRI, okay for depression, not so good for pain. SSNRIs, like Cymbalta, Effexor (generically available as venlafaxine and venlafaxine extended release), and Pristiq (prodrug of venlafaxine). Before switching from an SSNRI to an SSRI, try all of the patient assistance programs. Especially if you are taking it for pain relief. Guest guest
Ellen No, Neurontin (gabapentin) is not a substitute for Cymbalta. Neurontin is a GABA analogue. Cymbalta is an SSNRI (Selective Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) antidepressant. Have you tried Effexor or Effexor XR? Have you tried Prozac? Prozac (fluoxetine) is nice because it has a very long half-life. The fluoxetine has a half-life of 3-4 days and the norfluoxetine (active metabolite) has a half-life of about 11 days. If you forget a dose or are sick and can't keep the pills down, you don't GI through withdrawal. I went over a week without taking it, no withdrawal. With several others, I would go into withdrawal if I took it late. Do you have any insurance coverage? Steve M in PA > Ellen wrote: Is neurontin a substitute for Cymbalta? I am on Wellbutrin. Ellen, Contact the manufacturer of each of the medications you need and they have a financial assistance program and ask your Doctor for samples. You need to call 211 immediately and see if there is an organization that assists with medication. You should never stop these medications but titer down. On the medication website , they have a section on the toolbar. Also do a internet search of free medications and contact the services. Example: Lyrica assistance is http://www.pfizerhelpfulanswers.com/pages/find/find.aspx If you are taking Savella, which is for Fibromylagia isn't it instead of Lyrica and Cymbalta is an anti-depressant. I don't think you take both Savella and Lyrica but I might be wrong. I think I would call 211 since it is a national assistance number and can help you in both places. Good Luck, I hope you find out and your hearing goes okay. Bennie

For each state you will need to type in your state and then Department of Health and Human Services. Like for Texas it would be: Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Medicare programs have emergency Medicare services if you are waiting for it to kick in and they let you use those until then. I found this out assisting my niece. Cymbalta is an anti depressant that works on symptoms of fibromylagia. Bennie
