the company that created Savella will go ahead and seek approval for dual use.

If it had not acted as such I would have had to go off the Savella and have a

sedative given to me. An approved antidepressant can not be taken with Savella

according to my doctor because of dangerous side effects. I have had depression

since I was very young so I know I could not go without especially with this

pain.

Christy,

Savella is a Serototin/norepinephrine reuptake medication as anti depressants

and is considered in the same class.

Milnacipran (Ixel, Savella, Dalcipran, Toledomin) is a serotonin–norepinephrine

reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) used in the clinical treatment of fibromyalgia. It is

not approved for the clinical treatment of major depressive disorder in the USA,

but it is in other countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milnacipran

Why is this medication prescribed?

From http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth

Milnacipran is used to treat fibromyalgia (a long-lasting condition that may

cause pain, muscle stiffness and tenderness, tiredness, and difficulty falling

asleep or staying asleep). Milnacipran is in a class of medications called

selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It works by

increasing the amount of serotonin and norepinephrine, natural substances that

help stop the movement of pain signals in the brain.

The National Fibromylagia Association has an " Aware Magazine " , I find helpful

and they have clinical trial and research study reports.

I know that when I first found out I had it the only thing I was offered was

Elavil, low dose but found if I could get restful sleep, I could prevent fibro

flares but with chronic pain it is very difficult. It is a hard disorder to

keep under control and hope you get relief. Bennie
