Guest guest
Sounds like they gave you clindamycin (sp)? C. Difficile is known to be resistant to it. :/ Viability (refrigeration, usually) is just as important as getting the right microbes for the job. " The antimicrobial activity against Clostridium difficile of 109 lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from 32 healthy Korean infants was measured. The ability to show similar activity against Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Staphylococcus aureus was also looked for. Twelve of the 109 LAB showed activity against C. difficile and 19 strains were active against E. coli Ol57:H7, but none against S. aureus. Four strains had antimicrobial activity against both C. difficile and E. coli 0157:H7. Of the 12 strains that had activity against C. difficile, four strains were excluded as Streptococcus species, while the other eight were identified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays using group-specific primers designed from the nucleotide sequences of the 16S rDNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species. Based on the sequencing results, the eight strains screened were identified as Bifidobacterium infantis and Lactobacillus salivarius. " ( http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN & cpsidt=14659576) I usually use Jarrow, but they don't have a formula with both of the above bacteria. The only company I know that offers a formula that contains both is Custom Probiotics' D-lactate free. You might be able to find the two separately in the store though. B. infantis is pretty easy to find individually, and I *think* I've seen salivarius on its own. -Lana " There is nothing more useful than sun and salt. Guest guest
I also use customprobiotics.com. It's the most cost effective high potency formula out there. It's many times cheaper than VSL #3, one of the other very high potency formulas. Capsules are ok, but you can buy it in powder form too. Refrigeration helps maintain potency. However, even on the shelf, most formulas will be as or more potent than what is on the label for several months. Kay, in addition to taking good probiotics as others have discussed, be sure to minimize your sugar and polyunsaturated fat intake, both of which will suppress your immune system. Use bone broth and nutrient dense foods, like sea food, organ meats, and/or unsweetened dairy to get optimal nutrition as well. The bone broth will help to restore digestive health. Taking probiotics will not likely be as effective if you eat a diet full of sugar and polyunsaturated fat. Don't eat foods that have any added sweeteners. Fruit is OK but don't eat a lot. Also, avoid processed foods that have added vegetable oils, since most commonly used vegetable oils are high in polyunsaturated fat, such as soybean oil, safflower oil, cottonseed oil, or corn oil. Most salad dressings, sauces, and baked goods are loaded with vegetable oil these days. I made a blog post on antibiotics and probiotics a while back that has links to more info: http://stay-healthy-enjoy-life.blogspot.com/2008/01/antibiotics-probiotics.html HTH,
Guest guest
Look up S. boulardii it's amazing and there are alot of journal articles about its effectiveness against c. dificile - in fact, some say in light of its low toxicity, lack of side effects and effectiveness, it should be the treatment of choice. I get mine from www.myvitanet.com but I guess you can just google it to find it. Since it's a live yeast, you can even culture it to get more, like in flour/water. I've added it to bread dough and sweet juices, like coconut water before, to make a stronger theraputic dose. > > > > Hello Everybody, I'm new here and I'm here b/c I've been sick.
