Ah, liverwurst. My husband and I enjoyed a laugh last week: the kids

were tantruming because we were out of braunschweiger!

I am lucky to live right by a great Asian supermarket. But no one speaks

English. . . .so I don't always know exactly what I'm buying. Arabic

markets are great. There's one near me with fresh goat, kidneys and

liver prominently displayed.

I keep meaning to call the butcher and order a heart!

Actually, I think that we don't have widely available foods, just more

regularly available foods. Gatherers ate a wider variety of plants,

eating tidbits of the whole plantscape. Alfalfa and rasberry leaf tea. .

.. every wild edible spring green, not just Earthbound Farms preference to

grow. Small game, such as squirrel, etc. on a regular basis. Many

different kinds of birds, not just chicken and occaisional turkey. And

different grazers.

I have read that wild game meat is much higher in salt, and therefore the

switch to domesticated meat changed our diet drastically, and helped

create a currency in the form of extra salt that we needed.

With my friend Ana. Hispanics in my area eat them for

Christmas, making enough that their friends and family

can eat them for 3 days or More for all meals including

breakfast. For them to be really awesome fresh mesa

is a must.
