Maybe doctors should have a course in medical school on chronic pain to include that we are not drug addicts! Tami, They DO have a course in chronic pain but the DEA scares them from prescribing and they are afraid of being flagged, thus the monitoring with urine tests, documentation, etc. This takes up too much of their time and if they can treat other patients without having to document, they do. I am glad there are good ones out there and most of the time the good ones have had an experience with someone with chronic pain that effected their decision to pursue pain management. Pain is subjective and it is something for people to understand the pain is Whatever the patient says it is because they are experiencing it.
