Hi Ellen I have found that the best muscle relaxer for me was Baclofen, and Christy already posted that it comes in a cream. That sounds like a safer way to use than something that can make you dizzy. Here are some other ideas, I hope at least one of them will help you. Have you tried stopping more frequently to walk around, and move your shoulders. Driving or being in one position causes so much muscle stress, but I don't have to tell you that! Is your shoulder pain chronic, that is worse under stressful activity, such as driving? If this is chronic have you had a full work up and then physical therapy? I hesitate to give information about exercises if you have a spinal or other problem. Below are multiple kinds of ice/heat shoulder wraps. Most of them are disposable. I have never used any of these, so I cannot guarantee anything. http://www.icewraps.net/shoulder-ice-wraps.html My daughter spends many, many hours online for her job and her shoulder wrap has been a blessing. I will ask her which kind it is. Be very careful with any of the stick on chemical heat wraps/patches they can easily burn your skin. Maybe you can pick up something for your trip home. Buy from a store you can return it to one like it at home. This way if you don't like it, you won't be wasting money. I have a bulged disc in C-4 , C-5 and when I sleep on my left side wrong, I will wake up with numbness in my little finger and ring finger and shoulder pain. You can check on an internet search under cervical spine dermatones and they show what cervical spine level causes symptoms in the body. I think C-5 and C-6 is the shoulder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermatome_%28anatomy%29 explains dermatones. I came across these you tube songs of physical therapy classes singing and dances the dermatomes and teaching the spinal dermatones cervical spine, thoracic spine, and lumber spine, sacral ilac joints. You gotta watch them, I wish I had these for my three anatomy classes and they also do the whole anatomy system (the cranial nerves is good also, I just had a saying I had to make up) These are just two I like that printed the functions of the spine with the identification of where they effect by showing in dance. Made me smile and hope you feel better. Amazon.com has a lot of heat/ice should wraps, I like the thermalon as they can be heated in the microwave and put in the freezer and reused. Thermaderm can be bought in the stores and are temporary, the heat up and last eight hours but are a quick fix when you need them. Bennie You tube videos on dermatomes (students singing and dancing using it as learning the subject)
