Guest guest
i have not seen any lists and i don't normally eat grains but i'll tell you (some of) what i've done. i have bought some rice and beans for IN CASE. i will not eat them as part of my normal diet but will if the rest of my food starts to look thin. i have bought canned beef, pork, turkey, chicken, wild salmon, tuna, and other seafood (for the rest of the family). we have canned veggies and fruit. we have buckets of coconut oil, canned butter, evoo and regular olive oil. we also have frozen meat, veggies and fruits and would eat those first if something were to happen, concentrating on the meat. i started a garden last year. not very successful but it's more than most people will have. i'm raising rabbits in the basement for food for us and the dogs. the frozen meat is grass-fed/pastured. the canned meat is mostly conventional, with some all-natural or organic chicken. chicken is the only one i've found so far that comes in a non-organic variety. mredepot.com sells canned meats, butter and cheese. the meats are US meats canned by an Amish company. they import the cheese and butter from new zealand so i'm not sure about the confinement/diet for the animals. hth NT/Food/disaster preparedness list/information Friends, Some friends of ours have been asking about disaster/food preparedness steps they should take, and I was wondering if anyone had any lists, resources, etc. that are WAP/NN/NT oriented (aka, a lot of preparedness stuff I have seen include tons of garbage food). Thanks
Guest guest
We normally have at least a year's worth of food in the pantry and save our seeds from one year to the next. Should probably save seeds for more than that so if one crop fails we'd have another chance the following year. Farmers in my VERY rural area are talking about measures they might take to keep folks off their land. They mean both gov't " folks " and hungry city people. Interesting listening. Many alternatives, bring the animals in closer to the house, take them out into the back where nobody thinks to look... I'm more concerned with making the solar system a bit more efficient to keep our freezers running.
