Guest guest
I hade arthroscopic knee surgery done in 2009 and it was the WORST mistake I've ever made. The surgery was a failure and despite KNOWING that I had RSD in that leg, the surgeon did NOTHING to help prevent further advancement of the RSD or to treat it afterwards....he didn't even send me to PT. Just told me that once I got the range of motion to a certain place, he wouldn't see me anymore. My knee is STILL twice as big as the other, when it is NOT swollen...it cracks and jerks because it's bone on bone and there is pain from the surgeon taking too much tissue. I have met only one or two people who felt that the arthroscopic surgery did any good, and they were BOTH younger and had MILD damage to their knee. If your knee is that bad (as mine is too), I'd listen to the majority of the doctors and the PT and NOT do it. BTW, I'm 42 now and they've been trying to get me to do the full knee replacement since I was 40....there is not such a thing as " too young " if the knee is that bad. The problem is that the synthetic knee will wear out and you'll have to have MORE replacements in the future; where as with older folk, they only have to plan for ONE or TWO. A friend who is a physical therapist says " don't do it! " She has seen too many bad results from the arthroscopic surgery. This is the only doctor who has ever suggested anything except a knee replacement. My friend says this is because my arthritis is severe and most doctors realize that the knee replacement is the only real solution.
