Glowing quartz-halogen tubes lend a high-tech gee whiz effect, but I'm not inclined to believe that they offer superior cooking ability. A potential downside is that quartz-halogen tubes are fragile and have a limited lifespan. In the Flavorwave oven, the tubes are in the oven's lid, which gets moved around a lot.
