Guest guest
Elena, I would recommend adding a vitamin D3 supplement during the winter months. As I mentioned in another thread, I've had success with 4,000 to 6,000 IU daily, and more when I feel a cold coming on. Most D3 is synthetic but if you are really concerned about that you can look for a brand isolated from fish oil, I've seen them. Tom

Or do you have excess stress, more than you can shake off? Sleep is a huge contributor to a healthy immune system. And we know about sleep and young babies. Guest guest
I am far from where I need to be health wise but I notice we don't catch colds until we visit my very ill mom and it's usually after she gets the flu shot! I am beginning to wonder if she's giving us the virus in the flu shot that is somehow stronger than other viruses around. We just got over a nasty flu and now my husband is down with a new fever and I have one as well. thankfully doesn't seem to get as sick as we do, just runs a fever a few days and has some stuffiness. Of course he is always on his CLO while mommy forgets to take hers all the time and daddy wont' take it at all! (I need to get him some capsules). Anyway, I was wondering if you or a family member is around someone who gets flu shots? Guest guest
Elena, If you're all eating the same and you're all getting sick - I'd suspect diet before breastfeeding. I didn't see liver mentioned, are you getting the active forms of the B vitamins? How much sugar (rapadura, honey, or otherwise) are you eating? Do you grind your own flour or are you buying store bought (and if buying, is it bromate free)? Do you drink municipal tap water? Have you tried charting your temperature? On the rare occasion I get sick it is due to a temperature dip, usually from thyroid toxins like bromate or fluoride. -Lana " There is nothing more useful than sun and salt. Guest guest
Linus ing found that the more crowded people are the more germs spread, regardless of health, tho if the people around you are unhealthy they have more germs to give you. It's normal to get sick when you get exposed to germs all around you all the time the healthy people just don't get as sick or stay sick as long, imho. Some people here use those fabric seat covers for the shopping carts because the area where you put babies is the germiest. And because babies exhale/cough a lot more germs than adults, it makes sense that an adult would get sick when interacting with a sick baby/small child. So I'd say don't worry too much. It's not you it's the area you're in. Another thing to consider is that when the air is colder the smog/pollution stays lower and is more condensed near where we breathe, plus more smoke from fireplaces, etc. Add to that industrial pollution and it could be it's not even GERMS that are making you sick per se, as much as pollutants irritating the airways until they are unable to defend themselves from germs. Eating well can't create ideal health while you're inhaling too many toxins and irritants. My friend noticed when there was a toxic spill over 100 miles away and she noticed that she and everyone around her were having sinus/congestion problems over the next few days. I've heard the same thing about the contrails from jets - they have very few pollution controls on them and the jet fumes are pretty unhealthy. Vitamin C seems to protect against a lot of toxins - I've read plenty of journal articles where it was the vitamin C levels that made the difference between the people who got sick and those who didn't, so if you change anything, I'd say take more vitamin C. Just my thoughts. Guest guest
Perhaps you should consider other factors, such as mold or other exposure in your home. We went a long time with little to no illness in us and our kids until we had some unsuspected mold exposure and... bam! We have been sick on and off for months, sicker in 4 months than we have been in 4 years. So, I would also look at environmental factors - mold, duct work, etc.
Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for your responses. That makes a lot of sense - we have been under a lot of stress and everybody is sick around us. Interesting - our diet is absolutely different - my husband is on Trudeau's diet right now - very low calorie, absolutely no fat etc, before that he was vegetarian for 3 years. And he is not nearly as sick as I am, that's why I was thinking my immune system need some strengthening. It just doesn't make any sense. Thanks, Elena > > Dear all, > > I know we've discussed immune system probably to death here, but I still have one more > question. > > My 8 months old is sick second time this month. Guest guest
I second the comment to avoid sugar. Twice in the last year, I was on the verge of getting sick (some minor symptoms) but didn't seem to be getting worse. Then I had a bunch of commercial ice cream and bam, the next day, full blown symptoms! I thought the sugar was the cause the first time, but when it happened a second time, months later, I knew for sure that sugar impairs the immune system.
