It does not hurt to see if there are any state programs to assist you or your husband income will assist. I live in Texas and you never know until you try. The job you do right now if related to the tasks of an executive would equate to seventy thousand a year. I also was a stay at home Mom but stayed in the Reserves and put in twenty six years (don't know how I did it). I have sixteen more months until I can draw my pay at sixty. It would be nice to have it now as I earned it but I guess they see how many of us will die off and no family gets the retirement if we die. Oh how government works.
