Guest guest
> I'm open to any and all suggestions and ideas for what I can do. I have > no ideas of what to do about my lack of money. Follow something like this. Say to yourself: " If I have money for only one thing this week what will it be? " The answer, FOOD. " If I have money for only two things this month, what will the second thing be? " RENT. " If I have money for only three things this month, what will the third thing be? " Electric, whatever utility you heat with, basic phone service (NO LONG DISTANCE, CALL WAITING, CALLER ID, etc.) " If I have money for only four things this month what will the fourth on be? " Car maintenance, car insurance. STICK TO THIS PLAN!! Any month you have extra money following this plan, DO NOT SPEND IT!! Save that money for future vehicle maintenance expenses Your other expenses like electric can vary month to month, too. Reduce your electric bill by keeping the coils clean on your refrigerator and air conditioner (if you have one). Maybe your personal care attendant can clean those for you. Unplug all phantom power users that you do not use regularly. Turn off all lights when you leave the room. If you have cable TV get rid of it. Rather than turn off your internet since that seems to be your lifeline, call your internet provider and see what options they have to reduce your bill. A running toilet does not always make noise, but can run your water bill up, way up. You can check for a silently running toilet by putting food coloring in the bowl and come back in a few hours. If the water is colored when you come back, your toilet is not silently running. If the water is clear, your toilet is silently running (and running up your water bill. Most of the time, toilet repairs for silently running toilets are simple do-it-yourself repairs. If you toilet silently runs, maybe your attendant can fix it. Guest guest
Are you on Disability? If not you might want to apply soon as it can take awhile, but will help in the future. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Bundle up to stay warm, as for the darkness do you have any candles? They provide a nice amount of light, and you can read by them. Many good wills, thrift stores have great prices on candles. I have found a bag of 20 tapers for $3 that is many hours of light. Regarding your truck battery-do you have anything possession wise that you haven't used in awhile, not attached to,if so you can put them on craigslist to make some money so you can get a new battery.I have done it several times. Check into selling plasma,I have several friends who have done this you go to a lab, relax for an hour or so and get paid around $20 bucks I think you can go only once a week,or every other week but that is $40 a month extra. As for the calling friends sign up for skype its free, have your friends sign up for skype its free and you & them can talk for free. http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/prices As far as the food situation goes, there has to be more food pantries near by,churches, something.and if you call them & tell them your situation I'm sure they can arrange the food to be delivered. Your going to have to do some footwork so to speak to make things happen, getting ideas & such is great- *but you are the only one who can put things in to motion*.I've seen a wealth of suggestions offered to you by others on this group, are you exploring / following through on them? Wishing you better days. Peace,
Guest guest
Dear Chris: I am not really sure what you think that any of us can do. So many of us have given you suggestions about what you can do, but it seems to just go right over your head. I don't mean to sound uncaring, but you have got to learn to start using some common sense. Your post seems to be not a cry for help, but a cry for money. Today my husband got his paycheck and I after paying bills I went to the store and got groceries for the week...with $17.00, which was all we had left over for food. Yet, I got milk, and eggs and 3 different kinds of cheese and bread, cooking oil and some cat food. That's to feed 2 adults and 2 cats for the week. We've been smart enough to buy other staples like meat for the freezer and potatoes and frozen vegetables when we had more money to spend. I am also home alone most days and must have my husband drive me once or twice a week to run my errands. Why can't your aide that comes Monday, Wednesday and Friday help you with running your errands? I am in a wheelchair most of the time, and am still in so much pain that I can hardly get out of bed these last couple of weeks. Yet...I still went to the grocery store today (my husband drove me and I rode their electric cart) and got what groceries I could and paid some bills. All the rest of this week I was home in my chair. I don't know where you're looking to get a battery. You might try calling the local junk yards. A lot of them can sell you a used battery for a lot less than 100 dollars. If you can't find one for cheaper than that, you'll just have to save what money you can a week until you can afford to get it. Meanwhile, have your aid help you with the errands you need to run. That's what he's for. You told us that you get disability, and now money from catholic charities yet you still won't buy yourself food that will get you through despite so many people here giving you suggestions about how to go about it. I mean, even buying your cheap TV dinners is better than buying fast food that only lasts you a few days a week no matter how sick you are of the quality of TV dinner meat. Maybe you can go back on the yahoogroups website and re-read some of the messages that were sent the last time that you were low on food. I truly am sorry that you are struggling with so many issues...and we are trying very hard to be there for you, but there is just not anything that any of us can do about your lack of food other than to give you the advice that we have. Once again I am sorry if this seems uncaring, I do have sympathy for your situation, but I think you need seek out some of the options that have already been outlined by so many in this group over the last several weeks. Good luck, - PA I'm open to any and all suggestions and ideas for what I can do. I have no ideas of what to do about my lack of money.
