Have big, excruciating lymph nodes in my neck, face, head, shoulder. Am on IV

antibiotics for Lymes. Unsure of cause of Lymph node pain and swelling. Had

ultra that confirmed enlargement.

Doctor called in pain med and said it is no big deal. Thought it might have to

do with my port for my iv because treatments hurt like crazy. Can't stand the

pain and don't want to go to ER. Calling doctor in morning and saying I have to

come in! Help! Anyone had this?

Dear Lori:

Have they biopsied any of these enlarged lymph nodes?  I'm curious as to why

they would start treatment for Lymes disease without a biopsy.

Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and chest can be a sign of early Hodgkins

disease (which is treatable), or thyroid issues, so it seems really important

that you question your docs as to why a biopsy has not been done.  An ultrasound

that confirmed that they are swollen does not indicate what is causing the

swelling.

I can understand not wanting to go to the ER, but if the pain gets much worse,

maybe you should...just so that you can get some pain relief...and so that you

can get another opinion.

When you talk to your doc on Monday, I would recommend insisting that they

biopsy one of those lymph nodes.  If he is unwilling to do that, I would

consider going in and getting a second opinion.

Good luck!  I hope you can get some relief soon!
