I do wish you luck as I am about to enter a mini-hell myself. My social

security hearing isn't for over a month and I am living with family. I have

no income, no insurance nor meds.

my self get into that situation. I am off of all the pain meds now and will

be starting with Prialt in my pump this week. Being off the meds has be

terrible, but hopefully this new stuff will work.

Wish me luck

I wish every one a pain free day

You should qualify for state disability through the welfare office and get

medicaid as well.  I know it won't happen overnight.  Can't you call your

doctor, tell him what's happening and have him help you through this or supply

any samples he has in his office.  I know they won't have any opioid meds.

If you do go to the hospital be sure to apply for their low/no income program.

You won't owe them a dime that way.  Also, there are free health clinics in many

areas, do check that out and some are walk in.  Take your prescriptions and

medical records that show your conditions, any images from tests etc as well.

You'd be surprised what kind of help is out there for people with no income.

Also the pharmaceutical companies will supply many medications free of charge.

All you do is fill out their application and have your doctor sign it.

I will never understand why some doctors force patients off all oral meds before

implanting the pump. It's ridiculous! Not to mentioned COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY!!!

I wish I had one of those doctors that would prescribe whatever I asked for. I'm

so sick of the fight. I even have to fight for refills now.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have a doctor with ideas and who cared about

my case. I used to have one. Unfortunately, she left to spend time with her

daughters.

I'm sorry you had to go off 300mcg/hr of fentanyl. I went from 300mcg/hr to

100mcg/hr with no problem, but 100mcg/hr to 75mcg/hr was a little uncomfortable.

I wasn't willing to try anything lower than that.

Ellen,

My niece also applied for an emergency medicaid/medicare supplement and it gave

her income before hearing as she was told by her job not to come back she could

not do the job. She had seizures on the job and she was a respiratory technician

in a hospital.

Jennette has great ideas and the program my niece got was the state program like

what Jeanette mentioned.

She had to have two tumors in her carotid and jugular veins that had acoustic

neuromos (tumors on the inside of the ear that had grown on both sides and

entrapped the arteries)

I had forgot about that and you should call to the state Health and Human

services through your state you are living. It can't hurt and I will try to ask

my niece about it and e-mail you but its a start. Bennie

I wish there was some better way to switch from oral or patch medication to a

pain pump. I don't think the weaning off period has to be so long. However it

is probably necessary since it can take weeks for blood levels to drop from

taking a medication for a long period of time.

I also wonder if they do not clear a person's system from a pain med that

introducing a pump to soon will be less effective over time.

If the blood levels from the previous medication(s) are not low enough and you

introduce another medication through the pump the body will adapt to the higher

level of medication. so when the previous medication is out of the system, the

medication in the pump may not be as effective and require higher dose earlier

in treatment.

I think it is easier switching from one oral med to another or even to a pain

patch. I would imagine the delivery route greatly effects the speed and

effectiveness of the medication.

I do hope the switch is not too bad. Sending huge gentle hugs, Tami
