This would be the best choice as it has not been heated.

Is the sugarcane in big chuncks inside of these leaves? I was going to eat it

raw throughout the day. Does it have a lot of fiber in it? It's pure sucrose

which I guess is good. Sucrose is composed of glucose and fructose.

Sugarcane is the stem of the plant (think bamboo), and you can chew on it. It's

VERY very fibrous; don't think you could actually eat the fiber. You can chew on

the cane to extract the juice (that is, the stuff from which sugar is

evaporated).

No, there is no inner or outer.

Sugar cane is just that, a cane. A stalk of a plant which has sap that is

sweet. There is no sugar center, it is all fibrous cane...

I can't imagine any nutritional benefit from sucking on sugarcane. It would be

better than eating white sugar by the spoonful, but still, sucrose is not a

healthy sugar. Aside from trace amounts of micronutrients I don't think there's

much else in the cane. As mentioned already, the fiber is very stringy and

probably should not be consumed.

If you want to try sugarcane, go to a bar that serves tropical drinks and order

a Mai Tai or a caipirinha. They often come with a small stick of raw sugarcane.
