Guest guest
Since I have reached the end of allopathic medicine to help me I am working with a therapist who specializes in patients with chronic conditions. I am starting cognitive work or mind-body healing. We are working on the power of thoughts to reduce suffering and pain. I know this approach goes all the way back to the teachings of Buddha and Christ and was taught at our local hospital pain center. Has anyone else tried this - would love to communicate with people on this path. Rik

Rik, Imagery and alternate therapies are supportive and are used by cancer specialists and others. Bernie Segal, Dr. Carl Simonton, Cancer Center has done research on this for years. Pain Topics.org has extensive website resources on alternate care you might want to check out. http://pain-topics.org/related_websites/ I hope reading the research and information helps you. I have had bio-feedback, cognitive behavior therapy, and try to read and practice some of the techniques I am comfortable with. I never give up, but when I was a radiation therapist and it was time for some of my patients were at their end of life and at peace with it, I don't know if mind body healing would have helped them to be healed, but would give them strength for their passage from this life however they believed it to be. All cultures throughout the centuries had ways to reduce suffering and pain. Here is an abstract on Dr. Simonton whom taught kids with brain cancer to practice thinking pac man was eating their cancer cells away. This is what I remembered about him and his wife at the time doing research in Fort Worth when I was working in Texas: http://www.thesimontondocumentary.org/about_dr_simonton Bernie Segal believes in survivorship: Here is a website for him for you to review his views on mind body healing and he overcame cancer: http://www.shareguide.com/Siegel.html He also is on You Tube. This is what I have experienced early in my career as a radiation therapist and the pioneers I knew about and helped start a movement. I am sure there are more. I hope the best for you and let us know how you do. I did not mean to write a book but a snapshot into what I experienced. Bennie
