Guest guest
First I want to say hi to all of you in the group. I am new to your group. My pain is not new. It has been with me for about 15 years and really bad for the past 10 or so. I have had 6 lumbar surgeries the last one was in June of this year. I had a laminectomy for severe stenosis. I have had an intrathecal pump for almost 10 yrs with Fentanyl, dilaudid, and conidine. I have had a rough time of it since my last surgery. My right leg has become constantly painful. The nerve root at L5-S1 is constantly, as my doc says, firing with no let up. So much so walking is difficult. I am walking crooked in such a way that my ankle has become irritated from that being walked on wrong thus causing swelling and pain. Anyway I an in severe pain and my pump is not doing enough. I also have a Pain Therapy Manager, which is a remote that I can use to give myself a bolus of meds from my pump and now I am constantly using it and taking Percocet. I can't sleep or lie down without pain. Walking is really bad almost impossible and sitting is OK but when I stand up it's bad. The point of all this is my doctor wants to try a relatively new drug on me. It is called Prialt (Ziconotide) it is give intrathecally thru the pump. It blocks the pain signal to the brain and has been approved by the FDA. From all I've read it has a somewhat good success rate. But the side effects are extremely bad. They are too many to list here but I would like to know if anyone in this group has been given this medication or knows someone who is on it and can testify to their experience. I am leaning toward not trying this drug. I just need more information. Thanks

For yours I found forums that posted in 2006 so this has been around for five years and the contact is http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/showthread.php?t=67359/. I did this when opana came out and it made me very nauseated but works great for others. Good luck and let us know what you find out. http://forum.opiophile.org/archive/index.php/t-2908.html and are also sites of patients using Prialt. I have three level spinal fusion with BAK cages and instrumentation and permanent damage to my Sacral Iliac Joint from auto accident so I don't do too well sometimes. Bennie Welcome, the members here are caring and great.
